We’re thrilled to see the Okanagan Valley on .suckling 's radar. 🍷

Last week, James visited our valley and tasted a broad collection of wines from across the region, including Roche wines, and we couldn't be more excited to hear his thoughts.

Having called the Okanagan home for the past 15 years, we've had the privilege of watching this region grow into one of the most exciting wine destinations in the world. The quality of the wines, the dedication of the growers and winemakers, and the unique stories told through each bottle continue to raise the bar year after year.

Personally for Penelope, it's also a reminder of how small the wine world can be. She first met James during her early winemaking days at her family's winery, Château de Carmes Haut-Brion in Bordeaux, long before the Naramata Bench became home.

We're grateful James took the time to discover what makes this valley so special and share it with his global audience. And if his recent comments are any indication, we're hopeful this won't be his last visit.

We look forward to welcoming him back next year.

Chardonnay holds a special place in our story. It was the very first wine ever made under the Roche label back in July 2012. For us, celebrating this variety always comes with a little extra nostalgia.

Our current vintage of Tradition Chardonnay comes from a tiny 1.12-acre parcel at Domaine Roche Vineyard planted in 2017. The self-rooted vines were planted by our family, right here on the Naramata Bench and this marks just the third vintage from these vines.

Hand-picked in the cool early morning, whole-bunch pressed, barrel fermented in French oak, and aged on lees for 8 months, this Chardonnay is all about texture, complexity, and quiet confidence.

In the glass? Think apricot, papaya, lemon curd, pineapple, and a whisper of nutty spice.

At the table? Roasted chicken, grilled salmon, green asparagus quiche… or,simply, a big bowl of popcorn.

The return of BC fruit and everything we love about Okanagan Pinot Gris. Laden with fresh orchard fruit, from russet apple to ripe Bartlett pear, with a delicate savoury accent of ginger and beeswax. 15 years ago today, we arrived in the Okanagan Valley from France, with a dream,one little boy, a baby on the way and our dog Bacchus. 🇫🇷🍁

We took a big leap of faith, and followed a vision we had for what life here might become.

May 13, 2011 has shaped our family and our life in ways we could never have imagined.

Looking back at these photos and the timeline feels incredibly emotional.

Fifteen years later, we’re a family of 5 (plus Oka, our unofficial winery greeter 🐾).
In September 2012, we made our first 50 cases of Chardonnay.
In 2014, we purchased the Naramata vineyard that would become home.
In 2017, we opened the doors to our winery.

Long days. Beautiful harvests. Many vintages of wine later and somehow, this dream became our life.

We are so grateful we followed our hearts, and even more grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey.  Whether you’ve been with us since the early days or have only recently discovered Roche, thank you for being here!

And thank you for taking a little walk down memory lane with us 🤍
