Rooted Stone Acres Rooted Stone Acres is a family homestead. The land is our biggest teacher.

We’re mostly self-taught and land-led, growing food, raising animals, and building rhythms as we listen, adapt, and grow.

This is unreal. This is the second fire today. The first one is right by our only access to get North. And this one started right beside where myself and animals are evacuated to. The property literally right beside us.

They’ve got it under control now. But that was a huge scare.

What the hell is going on in the okanagan?!?!?!?!

Definitely not unpacking anything.

After dinner on Friday I saw a post on Facebook about there being a fire in Summerland. At the time it was just a small bit of smoke. And l looked at my husband and we said "oh crap".

Within the span of 20 minutes that fire grew to 50 hectares. And then we looked outside and saw a massive plume of smoke.

Less than an hour later it was 1000 hectares.

And then a couple hours after that it reached 5000 hectares and then the entire town of Summerland was evacuated and Highway 97
shut down.

They're saying they've never seen a fire grow this fast in such a short amount of time.

We could see flames from our house at one point.

My husband works in close contact with BC Wildfire and knows the background info on what's going on. He has reassured us we were safe where we were until morning.

We finally got to sleep around 2:30 am and then were up at 5:30 am again with my husband going back to the fire to see where it was and me taking care of our animals. Then I got a chiling phone call from my husband. “Babe, it’s time to leave now".

The community pulled together and it had me in tears receiving the amount of support we have. I am so grateful.

Please send prayers to Summerland. To everyone that has lots their homes, livelihoods, pets and more. And please pray for rain.

We are ok 🙏🏽 thank you everyone for the continued prayers and support ❤️

Update for everyone. We were officially put on evacuation order less than an hour ago. The cows, sheep, goats and pigs have all been picked up we have somewhere to stay. My husband will have to stay and help with the fire but the animals and kids and I will all be safe.

Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers and support. 🙏🏽❤️

At the point, we will most likely be moving our animals and leaving.

First time fermenting pickles in quite a few years. Last time I did it was probably 8-9 years ago and they were so yummy. These ones have about 3 more days to go and they will be ready to eat. Have you ever made fermented veggies?

This is the most milk I’ve gotten from Honey so far. It’s been a lot of working training her to still stand for me when her grain runs out. I can still feel a lot of milk in there when we finish up.

I’m pretty impressed that this is how much I’m getting from her with OAD milking and she is a ff.

Very proud of this girl 🙌🏽
