I’ve been trying to find the words to make a post about last Sundays event. I’ve needed some time to fully relish in the outpouring of love from our first ever u-pick in honour of our friends. Buckle up - this might be a long one….
For 8 years now we have been deeply engrained in our forest-school/homeschool community. These women and I congregate, we share, we support each other. They listen, they love and they care. We grow as mothers, together, while our children grow up together. They are my people.
When I started the flower farm I quickly learned the similar nature of the flower community. Over the last 3 years I’ve built a network of the most lovely women who help me, who let me know when they have blooms growing that I’m looking for, who commiserate about the weather and who truly get it. They have my “business” back. They are my flower people.
When our family friends had this tragic accident we had all been together just hours before. Learning the news of what had happened to them rocked me to my core. A week after the accident I was able to visit my friend in the hospital and hold her hand. It was such a relief.
Last weekend was an outpouring of generosity with 10 growers giving flower donations. Some of these growers I had never met or spoken to. Each one of these women sent me off with warm wishes for my friend, with hands on their hearts. Some even sent me off with cash donations to throw into the pot.
While Sundays event unfolded I realized just why it all felt so special…for the first time ever the flowers had brought us all together. While I greeted new faces, said hello to some of my past season brides, and hugged my familiar “crew” I couldn’t help but feel the entire purpose of this season was for this specific day. As I stood back and watched all the people, big & small, playing with flowers I felt the most joy I have felt in a long time. The flowers lightened the day. There was laughter and awe. Our friends were wrapped in smiles and love and kindness from strangers. I am forever grateful.
Because of you we collected $1500 plus $200 towards the girls gofundme. Thank you to all that showed up for this beautiful family.
