It's been a while, and I thought it was overdue for a farm life post here from Hollow Leg. Time to feed the machine this morning and found myself with a hankering for something a little sweet and a little savoury. Who'd have thunk a simple plate of french toast would fill my soul as well as my belly. We started here about 5 years ago excited to have the opportunity to have more control over our own food sources, be more natural, self sufficient and learn how we can impact the seed to table results.

My french toast included:
- 2 slices of bread we make ourselves from scratch.
- The flour we used to make that bread was freshly milled (at least partially for now) in our kitchen minutes before we made the dough.
- 2 eggs from the chickens I can see roaming around my yard and yelling at me for snacks
- milk from our own goats - similarly providing aesthetic and entertainment value to the property although MUCH more vocal about needing snacks to prevent starvation
- drizzled with maple syrup made entirely on the property from the sap our trees gifted us with combined with lots of heat and time (and patience - LOTS of patience).

My mouth was happy, my heart full of pride and my belly sated if only temporarily. It's a good morning here on the farm, and always groovy to be this fortunate.

When Tack wants attention he inserts himself into the routine in the most disruptive way possible. This morning set a new bar for this stunt...but he does look majestic on the milk stand!

Just over two weeks until the match! Will you be attending?

We will have plowing competitions, a vendors market, machinery and equipment dealers, a canteen lunch, live music by Dave Brown and friends, and more! 🚜🎶🍔

We are still looking for antique exhibitors, new machinery, demonstrations and tent vendors!

It's that time of year again - we're preparing this week to send a batch of chicken to freezer camp next weekend (planning for Saturday, Aug. 2). We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with others in learning how to do this, and would like to pass that on. If anyone is interested in learning more about processing your own meat birds, we'd be happy to have you out so we can share some of our experience with you. You don't have to commit to doing or trying anything you don't have the stomach for, but there will be room for extra hands if you'd like to get your hands dirty.
