🎃🐔 Pumpkin & Gourd Drop-Off 🐔🎃

Halloween may not be over just yet - but the fun doesn’t have to end! If you’ve got clean pumpkins or gourds you’re done with, don’t toss them — our chickens would love to help you recycle them! 🧡

You can drop them off at the farm anytime after Halloween. Please make sure they’re clean (no paint, wax, or mold) so they’re safe for the flock to enjoy.

It’s a simple way to give your pumpkins a second life and keep our happy hens pecking and entertained through the fall!

Thank you for supporting your local farm and helping us make sure nothing goes to waste 🧡

This is a local farm and they bring forward what everyone has been thinking!

Some of what we’ve shared has rubbed people the wrong way, and emotions run high when it comes to farming.
I want to say this as clear as I can, I’m not against farmers. I am one. Farmers come in every shape and size. Some grow flowers. Some make soap. Some sell veg at markets or run csa programs. Others raise pigs, chickens, cattle, or grain on an industrial scale. Farming wears a thousand different faces and every one of them matters.
But we can’t ignore how the public sees farming today. With the advent of the internet, videos spreading every day, numbers and stats being shared, more health related knowledge floating around, peoples perception has shifted. Doesn’t mean every farmer is guilty of it, but it does mean the publics concern is understandable. To the public eye, a chicken barn with tens of thousands of birds doesn’t look good. A pig barn over a manure lagoon doesn’t look good. A feedlot of cattle on cement eating corn and silage doesn’t look good. The sprays, glyphosate, atrazine, insecticides, fungicides, don’t look good either. That’s not an attack on the farmers who use these systems, it’s just the reality of how people see it.

And I get why it happens. There’s a demand for chicken, beef, and pork. Animals can’t all be raised in a picture perfect way like the public imagines. If they were, the outcry would be about cost, because food would be far more expensive. Chicken barns exist cause people want cheap chicken every day, not just seasonally. Pig barns exist cause pork has to be available year round and raised efficient enough to stay affordable. Feedlots exist cause beef demand outpaces what grass systems can provide, and finishing on grain gets animals to weight faster and cheaper. Herbicides and sprays exist cause grain can’t be managed at scale without them. And grain farms operate huge acreages cause demand is high and prices are low, so they need more land to make less per bushel. For now this is the system.

Farmers are doing their best to feed a hungry world with fewer farms and fewer people than ever before. That doesn’t make them bad people, it makes them families caught in a system that keeps squeezing tighter every year. The public rarely sees that side. What they see are headlines and videos that make big ag look like it’s only about profit. Thin margins and rising costs drive these systems, not greed. Most people trust farmers, but far fewer trust the way farming is done.

The future of farming can be one where farmers earn more, soils grow stronger, animals are healthier and happier, and the food on our plates is more nutritious.
Public trust in farming is one of the biggest conversations we can have right now. If this message resonates with you, please share it so more people can be part of the conversation. And feel free to add your thoughts in the comments — your voice matters.
