Shelter Farm

Shelter Farm is a social enterprise owned by the Port Alberni Shelter Society, and it's also home to our Therapeutic Recovery Community (TRC).

Just 10 minutes from Port Alberni on 172 acres is Shelter Farm, a social enterprise operated by The Port Alberni Shelter Society. The farm grows vegetables that provide a source of nutrition for our clients and are sold at markets and local restaurants to help generate income to support our shelter and programs. Shelter Farm is also home to the “Market Gardener Training Program” and our new "Pathw

ay to Food Production and Processing Program". These programs are offered in partnership North Island College. Students develop hands-on skills in growing crops, irrigation, weeding, integrated pest management and disease control. Students also develop skills in crop planning, business management, budgeting and marketing.

We had an incredible team of volunteers come out to the farm this week and help us with planting 400 ft of Potatoes! They were also able to help with potting up some early summer crops!

Our new flock are growing up so quickly!
They are already 4 weeks old.

Our regular (brown) chickens are still going strong, but we're super excited for our new White Leghorn's to grow up and join the rest of the flock!

It's True! There really are giants among us! Giant Mustards, atleast...
This week at Spirit Square Farmers' Market, we'll have Mustard greens, Spinach, Swiss Chard, Salad Mix (now with Arugula), fresh baked Bread, farm fresh Eggs, and so much more!!

This week's box includes Microgreens, Cilantro, Spinach, Red Kale, Swiss Chard, and as a bonus item, we has a mixed Raab bundle!

Although our Spring CSA sign-ups are now closed, there is still lots of time to sign-up for the Summer and Fall boxes!

We are so excited to see the early signs of Spring!!

Along with the flowers, our Spring greens are growing strong as well!

Come check us out tomorrow at the Spirit Square Farmers' Market were we'll be bring Spinach, Kale, Swiss Chard, Salad mix, Mustard mix, Cilantro, Basil, Eggs (oh so many eggs!!) and so much more!
