Forest For Dinner

Forest For Dinner Forest for Dinner is on a mission to make wild foods more accessible.

Hand-foraged in the wilderness of Vancouver Island using respectful harvesting practices, Forest for Dinner brings small-batch selections of mushrooms, greens, berries, and spices from the forest to the dinner table. We believe the delicate and unique wild foods that grow in the vast wildernesses of Vancouver Island deserve to be experienced by more people. By harvesting in a manner which safe-gua

rds the ecosystems in which these plants grow, our expert foragers are able to gather a variety of seasonal specialities including mushrooms, greens, berries, and spices. Our processing facility is located in the heart of the island, in Port Alberni at the Dock + food hub, where our artisans then package and process these goods into a unique and distinctive line of dried, fresh, frozen, & preserved products.

Journalist Ryan Stuart spent time with us at Dock+ in Port Alberni and told our story of how two young adult from France who met fruit picking in Australia ended up building a wild food company on Vancouver Island.

It's the story of our first morel, of spruce tip jelly, of late nights processing berries, and of a deep belief that the forest can feed us if we let it.

We hope it resonates with you as much as it does with us. Read the full article at the link below. πŸ’š

🌿 It's live! We are on Netflix TODAY! 🎬

Watch us forage on Vancouver Island with Zach Galifianakis in "This Is a Gardening Show", streaming now on Netflix. We appear at minute 7 of episode 3 ("Foraging") πŸ‘€

In the episode, you'll get a glimpse of what foraging means and what we do at Forest for Dinner: teach, forage, and create delicious wild food products.

Education is a key component of wild foraging: you can't harvest what you don't know, and it's important to start teaching the younger generation and passing down that knowledge, because really, they are the future caretakers of our planet.

The release of the show on Earth Day is a gentle reminder that we have the responsibility to take care of this planet that has fed us since the beginning of time. As we like to say, Earth Day is every day! 🌎 We should love and celebrate the beauty of our Earth every moment of our lives.

Zach Galifianakis' humour is a wonderful way to lighten important topics. From this humorous journey of discovering foraging, a conversation starts... and we would love to dive deeper into this topic with you.

Ready to talk more about wild food? We're here! 🌲

We can't wait to see the show, and more specifically the episode talking about foraging and featuring our company. So nice to see the Island at the center for once! There are tons of incredible food producers working toward food sovereignty here, and this show is giving just the perfect gentle reminder that it is possible... πŸ₯°

A Hollywood star has quietly chosen a completely different life πŸŒΏπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Zach Galifianakis, best known for his roles in major films, has confirmed that he now lives on a remote island in British Columbia, far away from the spotlight. Surrounded by nature and a small local community, his days look very different, trading red carpets for a slower, more peaceful routine.

What makes the story even more interesting is how natural the transition seems. He has spent years connected to the area and now fully embraces a lifestyle focused on simplicity, privacy, and even gardening. In a world that often feels fast and overwhelming, this kind of shift is something many people can relate to.

Sometimes, stepping away from everything is exactly what people are looking for 🌿

πŸ’¬ Would you ever leave a busy life behind to live somewhere quiet like this?

Have you seen the trailer for "This Is a Gardening Show" on Netflix? 🌿
If you spotted two familiar faces foraging in the forest... yes, that's us. That's really us (pinch me!).

Almost 4 years ago, a filming crew showed up on Vancouver Island and spent a day with us (Celia and Ben if you don't know our names already!).
We foraged, we laughed (of course), and we talked about plants, mushrooms, berries, and why wild food matters.

The show drops on Earth Day β€” April 22nd β€” on Netflix. Six episodes, hosted by the wonderful Zach Galifianakis, all about growing and foraging food and the people passionate about it.

We are so proud and so grateful to see Vancouver Island showcased in such a major show.
More to come very soon! 😘

As 2025 came to an end, we took a moment to look back...and what a journey it was! ✨

Last year was very FULL! 🌲 Full of growth, deep learning, long harvest days, and big steps toward scaling our small business. We harvested more of your favourite wild foods, built our biggest Christmas lineup yet (maybe a little too big… wow πŸ˜…), and felt an ever-growing love and curiosity for wild food from the community around us.

Spring arrived quietly in April, with delicate maple blossoms and the first flowers hinting at the berry season ahead. Spruce tip season followed: always intense, always a little stressful, with such a short harvest window… but we made it through, smiles included.

Summer was pure joy. June marked the gentle transition into warmer days, the air scented with roses, the forest offering its first sweet berries. July and August overflowed with ripe fruits, lake and ocean swims, and beautiful market moments on the Island at Filberg and ArtisTree.

Fall is always the busiest time of year for us. September brought the return of our much-loved fall foraging tours and, with them, the beginning of mushroom season! So many baskets filling and always a growing curiosity. October meant fresh mushrooms every weekend at Moss Street Market, while behind the scenes we shifted gears and began preparing for the holiday rush.

And then winter arrived, transitioning into the whirlwind of Christmas shows! Travelling far and wide to place our wild preserves into the hands of both familiar faces and new customers.

Now, in 2026, we begin the year with β€œhibernation mode” fully activated. Resting. Slowing down. Walking through quiet, dormant landscapes. Reflecting on everything we’ve created and feeling proud of what we’ve accomplished. Like the seasons, we shift too, asking ourselves what we want to keep, what we want to let go of… and, most importantly, continuing to dream with endless possibilities ahead.

Thank you for being part of this year with us. πŸ’š
