We're now taking pre-orders for sweet potatoes! 🍠
If you'd like to stock up on locally grown sweet potatoes for winter storage, send us a message to reserve yours before they're gone!
Unlike regular potatoes, sweet potatoes are especially sensitive to frost, making harvest timing important! ⏳
One of the best things about sweet potatoes is that, when properly cured and stored, they can be enjoyed well into the winter months!
Did you know sweet potatoes actually become sweeter after harvest?
During the curing and storage process, enzymes help convert some of their starches into natural sugars, giving them that delicious sweetness we all love!
Have you ever noticed the white, milky substance when cutting into a sweet potato?
That's actually a natural sap containing starches and other compounds! It's completely normal and especially noticeable in freshly harvested sweet potatoes.
You may also notice a dark, sticky substance at the end where the sweet potato was attached to the vine. When freshly harvested, a little sap can seep from this spot, eventually darkening and hardening into what looks like a drop of syrup. Don't worry, it's completely natural and simply part of the sweet potato's response to being harvested!
While they're delicious freshly harvested, a little patience can make them even sweeter — perfect for comforting meals in the months ahead or a special addition to Christmas dinner!
