Old Gesner Homestead Creating a healthier lifestyle by growing our food without pesticides/herbicides, and sharing any extra when we can.

Between 2012 and 2014 both of us were diagnosed with cancer, and decided it was time for a lifestyle change. After many discussions with family & friends, we began our search for a small family farm. In 2017 we sold our properties in Newfoundland. In August of 2018 we made the big move to the beautiful Annapolis Valley, and into a bankruptcy on 5 acres of neglected land. We contemplated tearing down the big old house until we learned its history. That this house was built approx. 1785 and is the birthplace of Abraham Gesner (the man who saved the whales by inventing kerosene), among many other significant accomplishments! And so...the labour of love began on the 'Old Gesner Homestead'.

Our blueberry and raspberry u-picks have closed for this season. Our teams would like to thank you for supporting us in 2026. Farms would not survive without a great customer following ❤️

No fresh blueberries, however, when you need blueberries, Blueberry Acres, 1225 Middle D**e Rd, Sheffield Mills, has 5 lb bags, or boxes, of frozen blues through the winter, until they run out.

Also available are the Blueberry Acres wooden blueberry harvest totes (from days gone by). They make beautiful inside & outside projects. Pick out the ones you would like - only $5 each. A crate of totes is sitting beside our blueberry u-pick “Front Porch”.

The frozen blues and the totes may be purchased from Cherie or Oksana in the upstairs office, Monday through Friday, 8 - 5. Cash only. Go through the double doors (left hand door) at the end of the walkway and up the steps. No need to carry any totes upstairs - just let the gals know how many you have chosen. Many decorate their tote for the seasons. One lady is using for shelves/towel rack in a bathroom. Another as table centre pieces at a wedding. And so many other projects 😊

When raw this beauty is spicy, hot, and rich with high allicin levels. When cooked it mellows into a smooth, deep, sweeter flavour.
