JH Farms Introducing JH Farms, a Farm to Table Hobby Farm & Home Business. We will raise chickens to lay fresh eggs, and of course a marvelous herb garden.

We aspire to grow fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, and a variety of other fresh food on our farm. We do intend to share these fresh products with you at our farm stand and local markets, but our main priority will be to utilize these ingredients to make you fresh local delights. Imagine one of our Chocolate Bombs in the fall, as a Pumpkin Spice Latte - with the pumpkins from our garden, along with fresh cinnamon and ginger from our plants. Gummy Bears and Suckers with fresh fruits such as apple, watermelon, cherry, strawberry - all directly from our garden. Perhaps you'd be more tempted to treat your furry loved friends with apple or pumpkin dog biscuits made with the freshest ingredients from right outside the kitchen door.

Who remembers when we made pies...

Who wants us to sell ๐Ÿฅง and other baked goods in 2027 again? The hands and feet making our turkey decor is getting bigger - that means we may soon have some time again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you to Grove Construction for putting on the metal roof.

To Electrified General Contracting for turning the lights on and wiring up my heater.

Thanks to Morningwood Custom Milling Services for the amazing lumber.

Thanks to my dad for all his assistance.

And thanks to me for building my first ever building. We are nearing the completion for our brand new buck barn.

It's built to last 9" thick hemlock walls between all the layers.

Between fixing a tractor ๐Ÿšœ when I think everything is about to fall apart, and building a goat barn this summer. I'm getting a lot more comfortable considering myself a farmer this year.

This morning, my tractor loader stopped lifting.

The bucket would curl. It would dump. But the loader arms wouldn't go up, and they'd barely go down.

As a relatively new farmer, one thing I've learned is that a lot of problems are problems you're encountering for the first time.

I've never had a loader do this before.

So you start working through it.

Is it hydraulic pressure?

A disconnected hose?

A bad quick coupler?

A valve?

You research. You consult people and resources that know more than you do. You test one thing at a time. You eliminate possibilities.

Eventually, I noticed something important: the joystick didn't feel right.

That changed the direction of the troubleshooting.

I traced the control cables from the joystick down to the hydraulic valve and compared the cable that wasn't working to the one that was.

There it was.

One little set screw had worked itself loose.

Tightened it.

Loader works again. ๐Ÿ˜‚

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

Farming has taught me a lot about problem solving.

You aren't going to know the answer to every problem when it lands in front of you.

And pretending you do isn't particularly useful.

What matters is how you respond when you don't know.

I think there's a lesson in there that extends well beyond farming.

Nobody walking into Council is going to have every answer.

I certainly won't.

But I know how I want to approach the questions.

Do the homework. Ask questions. Listen to people who know more about the subject. Look at the evidence. Understand the options. And then make a decision.

Sometimes a problem that looks very complicated turns out to be one loose set screw.

You just have to be willing to keep looking until you find it.

The ladies know when it's bedtime/dinner time + just always want to be with us. We're still preparing for a few of these ladies to leave us as we try and shorten up our chore list to spend more time with the human kid.

If you've been looking for some lovable goats - reach out.

Thank you to the lovely generous person who pulled over to the side of the road, opened your trunk, opened the kennel and released the cat. Yes, we saw you and then saw you speed away. Animal cruelty looks good on you.
