Today, Ron nearly gave me a heart attack when I was passing by the sunflower patch.😂 He wooshed out of the sunflowers (not knowing he was there, my life flashed before my eyes) and he ended up on the very tippy top of this tree, posing like the magnificent beast that he is.

Well, yesterday's little harvest made for one heck of a feast! Our 3 course meal started with Rosemary Farmhouse Bread with whipped herb butter, and ended with apple rhubarb galette with nannyberry coulis and red-clover infused whipped cream paired with a chilled Ontario Riesling. So, so good.

There is something very satisfying about making a meal from food you grow and forage. I would have taken more photos, but I was a bit engrossed in the extensive culinary processes involved. 😂

Full menu:
Farm Egg Raviolo
(herbed ricotta, soft egg yolk, brown butter, toasted sunflower seeds, parsley and sunflower petals)- This was AMAZING and could have been its own meal. I will definitely make this again.

Pork Tenderloin with Wild-Grape Gastrique
(roasted Mac apple, charred cucumber, basil-parsley oil, rosemary)- Keith says this combination is his favourite thing I have ever made (to date).

Apple & Rhubarb Galette
(nannyberry coulis, red-clover cream)- another winning combination of flavours.

If I were to repeat this meal, I would definitely prep some things in advance. None of these were difficult to make individually, but there were a lot of steps and good time management required to bounce between recipes.

Parker was my "helper' today. He's a smart cookie who needs to have a job to do (or risk becoming a complete menace🤣).

After sampling the sunflowers, we made our way to the orchard. I picked, and he pruned. We meandered back along the fence line to check on the wild grapes. Again, I picked, he pruned. Then we checked on the chickens and watered the alpacas.

Clever goats need lots of enrichment and stimulation beyond switching pastures and human attention. He was able to explore, forage different plants, and practice manners on a lead. And of course, true to his nickname "Mouth of the South", he chatted to me the whole time. 😆

We managed a lovely mix of harvest today. Macintosh apples, nanny berries, highbush cranberries, rhubarb, wild grapes, sunflower heads, red clover, eggs, lots of herbs, and some of my son's cucumbers.

Now to figure out what to make! Stay tuned...

Spotted "Ron" outside the kitchen window this morning. That has never happened! Usually he's catching frogs down in the field or perched in the marsh. He seemed to be soaking up the sun and maybe enjoying a frog or two from this end of the field. There's certainly no shortage after such a wet summer.
