My task of the ‘day’ 🙂 I really enjoy baking soda & Epson salt baths as a skin detox as well as a mind and muscle rehab. Costco now carries a ‘sleep’ soak with the baking soda and Epson salt plus extras. I enjoy that it is made with natural products but personally find the scent a bit too overwhelming so I have diluted the concoction to extend the stock:

X2 4.4lb sleep fizzy bath soak
X2 10.8lb baking soda
X1 5.5kg Epson salt

Mixed together gives me the perfect ratio for our supply plus Christmas presents for teachers 🙌

sometimes it takes some creativity and simplicity to change our outlook and sustainability.

Included you will find a picture of the ingredients of the sleep fizzy bath soak (it has coconut oil so beware if you have a nut allergy???)

FYI…. Highly suggest buying Classico pasta sauce (if you are buying sauce…)as these atlas jars are top notch for canning and repurposing (we use them as glasses and travel mugs as they fit the standard mason jar accessories)

Lily (2022) up front and momma (and now grandma) Kiki (2020) just behind.

Kiki is our matriarch and the first sheep we owned. She is the leader in all the ways though since Lily had her baby (meadow)this year; Lily seems to have taken the lead a bit more.

If you haven’t noticed: all of Kiki’s babies start with an L, Lily’s babes are M

This is a tradition I am fond of; whatever the mom’s initial is-the babes were all the next letter in the alphabet.
(Some farmers have a letter of the year system)

I adore these girls, Kiki is my cuddler 🥰

This pic is from one of our forest foraging days. Myself and Odin guard them and they clean up the underbrush and along the fence line

Yesterday we had some unexpected time at the hospital so I’m going to have to finish up the intros this morning.

Loki is the big guy front and center.
He is 3 yrs old and our very first lamb born to us in spring 2021. He was so big and mobile in the womb that the ultrasound picked him up twice and we were expecting twins… instead just one large boy. He is full siblings with Lily (2022 lamb)
Sired by our original ram Frederick and Dam is Kiki.

He’s also a wether. Loki is best buddies with our 2024 ram lamb and has taken him under his wing. So much so that I refuse to sell Luka without Loki as a companion. This would be a hard goodbye but I don’t want the lonely ram life for Luka.

Loki is the largest of the sheep but still perspectively not that large. He is gentle and is a bit shy but he can be coaxed for treats

This picture is from this July. The gang found a decent shade and this what I came home to from work 🤭

Freya is our “pup” she is getting pretty big! Her 1st birthday is on Halloween 🎃 she is a Kuvaz/Ovcharka and happens to be the great niece of Odinheim (wasn’t intentional but cool regardless)

She is in her brat era 🫣 LGD tend to mature slower and they go through a troublesome teenager phase….rest assured Odin is strict with her and in fact makes her do the perimeter check while he climbs to his perch to supervise 🫠 haha.

She is FAST! Kuvaz are a Hungarian breed that are lean and cover ground quickly. She does zoomies from one corner of the property to the other making tight turns around obstacles like the garage, trampoline, cars….. 💨she fast and literally does burn circles in the driveway

She’s a ham but I am very proud of the guardian she is becoming. She is trusted with the flock other than the chickens (atm).

Thanks to Proud Paws Grooming for cleaning “little miss” up today 🤩

Odinheim is our big furry squishball 🥰
Odin is 4 yrs old and is Ovcharka/Pyrenese.
He is loud and intimidating though the sweetest gentle giant we could ask for.
He is brave, clever and has proven to be a gem of a trainer for our LGD pup, Freya.
He is the first to find the tallest lookout and then the goats follow. 😅 he spends most of his time sleeping on TOP of the dog cabin than in it, but he enjoys a fresh straw bed…. Until the goats eat it all 😆

We started the open house/‘petting zoo’ events as a way of socializing and introducing him to the neighborhood. He is so clever and is remarkably skilled at turning off his guardian behaviour when he leaves the driveway. He also recognizes when we invite people onto the property vs not… don’t recommend opening that gate 🙌

We have a ZERO loss to predator thanks to this big guy. He has taken on/taken out coyote; prevented x3 bears from breeching the perimeter (treed them). Generally we don’t even see what comes to investigate; they turn off immediately. There is a trail that runs behind our property, commonly used by the big baddies and we often hear the yips of the yotes. We spent a lot of time on fencing the perimeter this year to assist with the hard defence to take the pressure off the dogs and of course I want to make sure the dogs are safe and secure as well.

Thank you so much Proud Paws Grooming
for spiffing up the big guy 🥰 when he’s clean like this I am so tempted to bring him in to have snuggles with. He’s not a fan of indoors though and panics not being able to have eyes on his charges.

Looking forward to the winter sled pulls!! (Odin is looking forward to sharing the load with Freya this year 🤭)

Felix is our shy but demanding Nigerian Dwarf goat. We got him in February as a companion for Milo> Milo was intended as a companion to Sammy and unfortunately that just wasn’t meant to be 😭 the “companion game” is something we are not new too 😂 we have fallen into the trap with dogs and bunnies and apparently now goats. For our small property, the 2 mini goats are perfect for keeping the weeds at bay 🤩 you’ll also notice that our trees are “nicely” trimmed up to a certain height… that is Felix; he is our designated arborist 😅 he is kind of a hands off shy guy, but has made himself part of the gang nicely. He is also a wether so no goat babies around here!! If things get too overwhelming for him; we will probably put him in with Luka so he can have some space if he needs. If you have never heard a goat SCREAM before…. I give you Felix. Anytime I go outside he screams at me. lol. He definitely does not want cuddles but I will persevere!!!!

The stoic Luka is pleased to make your acquaintance 🤗 he is a Southdown babydoll ram (the only male animal on the property with all the bits 🤭). He is decently aloof but courteous around the kids and me thus far, though being an intact ram; it is always wise to be mindful so he will not be in the access pen on Sunday. He will be in the observation pen so can still be interacted with but with a defined boundary through the fence. He loves scratches and would definitely appreciate the treats.

Luka is our ram lamb that was born around easter. He was the freshy if you happened to come to the Easter event 🙂

Introduction of the day…. Mischievous Milo. A Nigerian Dwarf (wether… no male *bits*)
He is sweet and teaches all the youngsters what it means to be sweet and mischievous. *WHO ME??? Couldn’t be…*
His best buddy is our other ND goat, Felix and our ram lamb Luka.

Making homemade butter from scratch! We normally take a brick of butter and whip it with avocado oil to make a homemade margarine. Since we already did that we figured we’d give this a try and it is easy peasy!!!!

33%mf whipping cream/heavy cream (946ml)

We used our ninja on the dough setting for 10 mins; Occasionally scrape down the sides.

Drain out the buttermilk and rinse in cold water until water runs clear. *you can retain the buttermilk but will need to ferment with lemon juice in order to utilize for recipes in place of store bought*

Add 1/4 cup fave oil (we use avacado oil) and salt to desire (we did 2 healthy pinches)

Blend for another 5 mins. then divide into dishes and keep in fridge.

Softens in a minute when removed from the fridge; perfect for spreading.
