We have the best community, family, friends, neighbors, customers, co-workers, and bosses a person could ever ask for. We have definitely been feeling loved and supported over the last few days since we lost our home Wednesday night to fire. The fire started outside and quickly spread to our front deck eventually shattering our front window. The shattering is what woke my husband up. The five of us escaped out a bedroom window near the back of the house with just the clothes on our backs.
We lost everything including all of our ID, passports, drivers license, bank cards, cell phone, and the keys to vehicles and tractor. With the help of our neighbor, my son was able to spare his work truck by breaking the drivers side window, unlocking the door and using the spare key inside it to move it away from the fire. It has some damage from the extreme heat but hopefully it's not extensive.
Our garage was spared other than some melted lights and siding.
We are starting to get our feet under us again. We are fully insured and will rebuild as soon as possible. We will be staying in a house that became available nearby. It's the best scenario we could have asked for and we are so grateful.
The community, family, friends, and neighbors have been so incredible. Words cannot describe how generous people have been. We have had to swallow our pride and let people help. Those first pieces of clothing and shoes made me feel human again and the cash being handed to us in varous envelopes has allowed us to replace phones, computers, keys, clothing, footwear, and other necessities. The generosity has been humbling!
The greenhouses are intact and sustained no damage - A pure miracle given their proximity to the house. I will continue to farm but there will be gaps in production as I lost all the seedlings in our basement and thousands of dollars worth of seeds and seed starting supplies. I will continue with my box program first and if there is enough product, attend market. Without a working kitchen, I have to let go of preserves and salsa for this year.
Please keep us in your prayers. We will get through this.
With so much gratitude,
Kathy
