💐MOTHER’S DAY💐 a special project with your support

1 in 4 pregnancies end in some kind of loss. For myself, I became part of that statistic in December. Those who have been through it know that this loss marks you forever.

As Mother’s Day is approaching in a month, I was looking for a way to bring light to a day that I know will be hard for myself and other loss moms. To that end, I am inviting you to be part of a push for support of women and families experiencing this loss. I will be collecting donations via my website and matching them 100%, as well as taking 10% of subscription sales, and donating them to PILSC (Pregnancy, Infant and Child Loss Centre) in Calgary, which supports all of Alberta.

There are a couple of ways you can help out!

🌺 Easy and no cost to you - share this post!
🌸No additional cost to you - purchase a subscription, and I will automatically donate 10% of your purchase
🌷Additional donations support- when you make an additional donation via our website, I will personally match that donation 100%.

On Mother’s Day, I will share a detailed donation tally and receipt so you can be assured that your support went where it was most needed.

The subject of miscarriage and child/infant loss can feel taboo. As someone who has experienced this, my inbox is open for you.

Not a sponsored post, but just sharing something I’ve used for a long time and would recommend - food for my indoor houseplants! I wish this stuff came in gallons (I may have too many house plants)! It is a kelp concentrate you mix with your water to boost up your plants! I have been using it for almost two years, and here are some things my plants and I love: supports them through the dark winter months, encourages lots of new growth and blooms (I’ve seen some plants bloom using this that I’ve never seen before!), not smelly (IYKYK), and easy to use. Would definitely recommend if this spring weather is making you want to give your houseplants a little more TLC.

Devastating farm update. We have high winds today, though we are not in a wind warning which is typical for this time of year in southern Alberta. Unfortunately, it was strong enough to flip our greenhouse end over end several times into our Russian olive tree (thus saving it from blowing directly into our dugout). This is so crushing - thousands of dollars and so much time to build it. We are assessing whether it is repairable, but even being able to dislodge it and move it is a daunting task - the kit for the greenhouse itself weighed over 1000 pounds, to say nothing of the large wooden base.

This loss doesn’t only represent the greenhouse. It also meant that all the seeds that were drying for our seed sale have blown away, as well as most of the trays I use to start seeds. There is a lot of material beyond the greenhouse that will have to be replaced, to say nothing of the costs of either potential repairs, or to remove the greenhouse altogether.

Your support now would mean a lot - whether through expertise and advice (perhaps you’re a handy person with construction, etc.?), or through support of our flower subscriptions and upcoming wreath workshop. Flowers will still come next year, but this is a setback.

With teachers on strike, I have used the week to get ahead in my garden cleanup. Yesterday was my last task - to dig up the gladiolus forms and prep them for storage for winter.

I used to think of glads disparagingly as a “grandma flower.” They still are, because of the fond memories they bring people. I used to hate the garish colours I would see. All of my glads are sourced from who curates a beautiful collection every year. I haven’t bought more in a couple years - the corms multiply! - and I have my eye on a few new varieties for next year.

With this task done, the garden is closed out. We still have other tasks: closing down the greenhouse, redoing all the garden landscape cover and pathways, preparing for our order of 1000+ trees from the Prairie Shelter Belt program that will come in the spring, and more!

I have also been working behind the scenes to prepare some workshop offerings, as well as to prepare for the sale of next year’s subscriptions!

What are some of your must-do fall chores? Do you have your eye on a subscription for next year? Let me know!
