As the sun was rising on May 12th, 2026, while listening to some of his favourite music, our father, George Morasse, passed peacefully surrounded by his children, Tammy and Ryan, and his brothers, Jim and Paul.
George was the loving husband of his late wife, Donna, proud father to Tammy and Ryan, cherished father-in-law to Steve Heming (Tammy) and Samantha Morasse (Ryan), and the most adoring grandfather to Lucy, Thomas, Zachary, and Charlotte. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him including his brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Born in Sarnia to Paul and Doris Morasse, George grew up in Wallaceburg and Lindsay alongside his siblings, Sharron Ann, Jim, and Paul. He married Donna in 1969, together they built their life and raised their family in Hamilton.
Dad was truly one of a kind. He was a force of nature who touched the lives of many with his loyalty, sense of humour, big smile, booming voice, and gregarious personality. When “Big George” entered a room, everyone knew it! He possessed a brilliant mind, a remarkable memory, a disarming wit, and a good heart. Dad had a rare gift for building relationships wherever he went. Few people can strike up a conversation with anyone and turn strangers into friends with ease the way Dad could. His reach was far and wide. “Six Degrees of George” was something many experienced firsthand.
Dad lived a life filled with passion, strength, leadership, and love. He was a Recreation Supervisor with the City of Hamilton for 30 years. He loved his career and the many achievements that came with it, especially during his time managing the “Supie” program. Dad was an accomplished athlete, a 2nd Degree Wado-Ryu Karate Black Belt, Mohawk College Alumni of Distinction, a Mohawk College and Lindsay and District Sports Hall of Fame inductee, longtime HRNOHL President, mentor, coach, as well as a leader to countless people throughout the years. His impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him will never be forgotten.
Dad was also a dedicated community builder who gave generously of his time and energy. He organized charity golf tournaments, volunteered as a reading tutor, coached hockey, served on non-profit boards, and helped raise funds for many important causes. Dad loved solving problems, and if he could not fix something himself, he would always say, “Leave it with me, I know someone who can take care of that.” Somehow, one way or another, he always made sure things got done.
More than all of his accomplishments, Dad will be remembered for his heart, wisdom, humour, and the way he always showed up for his family and friends. He had a special way of making ordinary moments feel important and memorable.
Our parents shared a love of dancing. They were known for the effortless way they moved together with both skill and playful freedom. Smiling side by side, they made the jive look easy and fun. We take comfort in knowing they are reunited and dancing together once again.
We are heartbroken, but extremely grateful for the memories, lessons, laughter, and love Dad gave us throughout our lives. Rest peacefully, Dad. You will be missed more than words can say and loved forever.
A gathering to honour and celebrate our Dad, Big George, will be held in the near future. ❤️
