Okay this last yard tour is a little different from the others - it’s not one of our farm yards, it’s my home garden! 🌷🏡
This season I have been thinking a lot about what it means to farm versus what it means to garden and I think these tours illustrate the difference (from my perspective!). I also wrote about this in last week’s newsletter (🔗 in bio).
While I still harvest a little from here to fill out the odd bouquet and as part of the share to some of our host yards, I made a conscious effort not to “farm” this yard. Ie, to let some flowers stay on the plant until they went to seed rather than picking them when they would be optimal in a bouquet, and to leave the volunteers rather than pull them to make way for the main crop.
I think I say the word “fun” a lot in this video 😅 and I think that’s exactly what a front yard garden is! Farming can be fun in parts, but there are also parts that are stressful and tough, even on a micro-scale. Having a growing space all to myself without the pressures of farming has been so so lovely and has brought about a whole new side of growing 💚🌷
