Congratulations to Bar JM Farms, Sarah Daraugh and Derek Black of Douglas, Ontario for their purchase of WGL Heavenly Hash aka Heaven.

Heaven is a 6 year old and leaves a legacy of quality cattle at OPAL and she has many years of prolific activity ahead of her.

My personal thanks to Sarah and Derek and I am happy that Heaven is within driving distance to visit.

OPAL 2.0 Begins …..

I am deeply grateful to Ray and Stacie Stanton of Hillside Farms at King City and New Liskeard, Ontario for their purchase of 6 cows with 2026 calves at side and 2 fall 2026 calving bred females.

This represents a major herd reduction for OPAL Stock Farm herd. In January my herd was eclipsing 40 head of cattle and at the same time, I was facing some personal health challenges that dictated the necessity of refocusing.

January and February was spent mostly in hospital with the navigation of complications from Crohn’s disease and a small bowel cancer diagnosis. I am pleased with the plan in place to work through these challenges.

My refocus in 2026 is on my health as well as starting OPAL 2.0 with 5 young cows and their calves as I begin to build the next chapter of OPAL. I am far from gone from the business of Limousin cattle - let’s just say for now I am gone fishing. My personal well being has a strong footing in the Limousin business - it is in my DNA.

I wish Ray and Stacie and the team at Hillside the very best with their quality purchases of the OPAL mature cow herd. These are great cows from great herds across Canada that will serve your program very well for years to come. Thank you again. I look forward to hearing about your success with them.

Calf number 14 and the winter calving season ends with 10 heifers and 4 bulls ! Absolutely incredible.

Congratulations to OPAL Moonstone, a New Life Henry two year old first calf heifer, who gave birth this evening to a beautiful heifer calf, OPAL Pyrite OPAL 14P. OPAL Pyrite is sired by our own OPAL Mahesha out of the BLC She’s The One cow family.

Moonstone is a daughter of Greenwood Phoebie. The naming theme of Phoebie’s cow family is healing gem stones. Pyrite joins Larimar, Moonstone, Nebula, and Pearl in this great cow family.

Congratulations to OPAL Moonstone and OPAL Pyrite’s new owner Josh Scheel, Braeside, Ontario.
