This weekend brought two new calves… and a whole lot of emotion.
Skye welcomed a sweet little heifer we’ve named Phoebe — calm, steady, and everything you hope for.
Then came Thelma’s calf. A long day of watching, worrying, second-guessing, and wondering if she’d ever let it nurse. We left them overnight, hoping for the best… and today we finally saw it happen. Because of that, her calf’s name feels fitting: Patience.
Patience is also Norbert’s sibling, which makes this one feel even more meaningful to us.
If we’re being honest, this season feels different. There’s a good chance we won’t have cows here next spring, and that makes these moments hit a little harder. The stress, the uncertainty, the long hours… but also the quiet wins, like seeing a calf finally nurse after you’ve worried all day.
Farm life isn’t always picture-perfect. Sometimes it’s just standing at the window, hoping things work out.
This weekend, they did.
Welcome to the herd, Phoebe and Patience. 🌱
