N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a versatile amino acid derivative best known as the precursor to glutathione, the body's primary antioxidant, making it valuable for protecting cells from oxidative stress and supporting multiple organ systems. Its strongest clinical evidence includes FDA-approved use as a mucolytic to thin thick mucus in chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD and chronic bronchitis, and as the gold-standard antidote for acetaminophen overdose by rapidly restoring liver glutathione levels.

Research also supports its role in replenishing glutathione depleted by certain environmental toxins, including some mycotoxins. Emerging clinical evidence suggests NAC may improve insulin sensitivity and ovulation in women with PCOS, enhance egg quality by reducing oxidative stress, and help disrupt bacterial and fungal biofilms, potentially improving treatment of chronic infections.

It is also being studied for post-viral fatigue and long COVID due to its anti-inflammatory and mitochondrial-protective effects, although stronger human evidence is still needed. While NAC does not directly lower histamine or treat allergic reactions, it may help reduce the oxidative stress associated with histamine metabolism.

Small businesses don’t need thousands of customers to make it. Most just need a solid group of people who keep coming back. That’s really it.

When people hear support local they picture busy markets and packed stores. But for a lot of us it’s way simpler. Even 20 30 or 40 orders in a week is alot. If it’s one or two people running the show that’s a full week of work. That covers groceries bills and keeping the lights on. And that’s only a handful of folks.

Most small businesses aren’t struggling because people don’t care. They struggle because people don’t come back.
That second order means everything. Anyone can get a first sale but when someone comes back again that’s when trust starts to build.

That’s when it starts to feel real. We’re still working on that ourselves. How many times have you tried something once and actually went back?

There are plenty of people in the areas we all serve. Renfrew Arnprior Calabogie Perth Carleton Place Stittsville Kanata Cobden Pembroke Eganville and all through the Valley. It’s never really been about not enough customers. It’s about getting someone to try you once and then come back.

A lot of us used to think we were all competing with each other. I know we did at the start. But the truth is we’re not fighting over the same few people. There are way more people out there then we think.
Really we’re all competing with convenience. That’s the real battle.

How many times have you ordered online or gotten delivery instead of driving out to pick something up? We’ve all done it. It’s easy. It shows up at your door and you don’t think twice. Most of the time your not choosing between two small businesses. You’re choosing between making the effort or taking the easy route.

That’s why it makes way more sense to lift each other up. The more people trust small businesses in general the more they’re willing to try the rest of us.

We’ve shared other local spots we actually use and trust. If we mention them it’s because we believe in them. When that works it helps everyone.
Even the small stuff matters more then people realize. Sharing a post liking it commenting or tagging a friend. It feels like nothing on your end but on the other side it can make a real difference. That’s how alot of people find new businesses now.

And then there’s the money part. When you buy from big chains or massive online platforms most of that money leaves the area. When you buy direct from a local business it stays here and moves around between people and other businesses in the community.

None of this is complicated. It just takes a little intention.
Try something new once. If you like it go back. If it’s good tell someone about it. That’s how it grows.
