Jean-Martin Fortier and the Market Gardener Institute Masterclass.

We’ve been in the Market Gardener Masterclass since year one. During that time it was a lifeline for us and we referenced it almost every day. I truly believe that every small scale farmer would benefit from being enrolled in this online course.

When you’re starting a farm theres simply so much to learn, having a literal guide for the best practices with video and technical sheet for every single vegetable was invaluable. It also covers plant spacing, direct seeding specs, additional modules such as farm design and crop planning (offered by myself) and so much more. It gave us confidence to push forward and stick to a system during some of the toughest years and for that we’re so thankful and highly recommend.

We haven’t figured out how we’re doing to celebrate 10 years yet. Might have to be next year at this rate ... BUT!

We do want to spend some time sharing some of the tricks and tips we’ve picked up.

A lot of our path to finding sustainability in our business has been learning where to get help along the way. Whether it be an online course, consulting, great companies, different tools (not just farm tools) or simply connecting with community.

During the next few weeks (until we run out of ideas) we will be putting out weekly videos on all the things that we find helpful.

Some are promotional, however, everything here will be something that we sincerely use and love. We love partnering with the brands and people that we find have helped us and find joy in introducing people to them and hopefully making other farmers’ lives run a little more smoothly.

Check out our DIY root washer! We were going to buy a used one but ended up going the DIY route instead, in usual fashion. This bad boy costs us around $400 and completed in a day. We have plans to add a motor in the future too.

Spinach is back in full swing! Did you know we are pretty strategic with our spinach plantings? Which is why it disappears from market in the peak of summer. Spinach is a cool loving crop, and in the summer it bolts quickly due to the heat. We grow it in the spring & fall here as nature intended and their big juicy leaves speak for themselves.

It's fall ya'll come get all these goodies and more at Carp Farmers' Market today (Saturday) open until 1pm. We've pulled the last of our ginger. We've got new fall crop available like rutabagah and radicchio. We've got lots of salad, spinach & arugula. Turnips, radishes. Heaps of onions, shallots, jalapenos and shish*tos. Plus tomato season is officially over!! Get the last of the fresh tomatoes until JUNE 😭. Same goes for cucumbers and sweet peppers. Happy shopping and thanks for all your continued support!!

The wheel hoe is a staple that has passed the test of time. From path maintenance to bed prep, it definitely gets the most mileage out of any tool on our farm.

Tomatoes start to finish!!! Planted in the ground in April and pulled out this past week. Phew. Our best tomato season yet! Seeds are from Norseco and they grew exceptionally well. We started working with an agronomist who helped us improve our entire system from feeding to irrigation to pruning & greenhouse management; we saw our plant health and yeilds increase dramatically!
