Lgd puppies are looking for their furever homes!

About: puppies were born Feb 6, 2026.

Mom: Anatolian Shepard x maremma

Dad: Great Pyrenees

Both parents have strong guardian instincts and are great around poultry, pigs and sheep.

Puppies have been introduced to electric fence and poultry and are doing well. They also get along great with cats and other dogs.

Spring has arrived at Humble Roots Homestead… and so have 11 puppies. 🐶

Our girl Poppy welcomed eleven healthy little guardians into the world, and she’s doing an incredible job caring for them.

Right now our house is pure chaos… but our hearts are full. 🤍

Five years ago, we packed everything we owned into the back of a truck and drove toward something we couldn’t fully see yet.

No guarantees.
No perfect plan.
Just conviction.

The first photo is that moment, loading up, snow on the ground, tools and pieces of a future crammed into a pickup bed. That wasn’t a “fresh start.” That was a burn-the-ships decision. We weren’t visiting Nova Scotia. We were committing.

The second photo? Raw land. No driveway. No gardens. No buildings. Just wind, alders and possibility. Most people would see emptiness. We saw responsibility. If this land was going to feed us, shelter us, and shape us, it was on us to build it.

The third, fourth and fifth photo is where we are now. Not finished. Not polished. Just moving forward.

Five years later, Humble Roots Homestead isn’t a dream, it’s a living, breathing reality. Trees planted. Soil turned. Lessons learned the hard way. Seasons of doubt. Seasons of growth. Still adjusting. Still building. Still earning every inch.

This milestone isn’t about “arriving.”
It’s about endurance.

We didn’t move here to escape work. We moved here to choose it. To build something real with our hands. To grow food. To create independence. To raise something that outlives us. And to grow a forest that will be enjoyed when we are no longer here.

Five years in Nova Scotia.
Five years of Humble Roots.
And we’re just getting started.

Here’s to the next five, stronger, wiser, and even more rooted. Happy Valentine’s Day. ❤️.

🍃🍂 Winter’s coming early this year! ⛄️

Cold mornings, frost on the ground, and the dogs acting like the air just supercharged them. The season shifted fast, and we’ve been trying to keep up.

Lately we’ve been working on / finishing up:
• the outdoor kitchen
• prepping the new 100x100 garden plot
• building raised beds
• getting tarps over the beds for winter
• pruning the trees
• saving seeds
• finishing rabbit hutches
• and upgrading Barkatraz for the troublemakers 😂🐶

Everything slows this time of year, but the work gets deeper and the connection to the land gets stronger.

May you let go of what no longer serves you and rest and recharge with the seasons. 🤍.

🐾 Rest in Peace, Stella 🕊️
May 2012 – October 2025

Today we said goodbye to one of the first souls who truly made our little family complete. Stella has been with us since the very beginning — back when we had just started dating, long before the homestead, the gardens, and everything we’ve built together.

She was there through every move, every storm, every new beginning. A tiny heartbeat that carried so much love and attitude through all the years.

Now she joins the other two who went before her, closing out a chapter of our lives that started over a decade ago. It really is the end of an era.

Thank you, Stella, for being part of our story from the start. We’ll miss your warmth on cold nights and your quiet company when life felt loud.

You’ll always be part of Humble Roots. ❤️

There’s something grounding about pulling food straight from the earth you’ve worked with your own hands. Today’s haul: fresh potatoes and carrots. 🥕 🥔 Simple nourishing, and grown right here in our Nova Scotia soil.

Every seed planted is more than food, it’s a step toward independence, resilience, and a life powered by the land.

If you’ve been wondering why HRH has been so quiet on here lately… we’ve got a furry little confession to make.

Meet the culprit: Poppy. 🐶
Her crime? Taking “unplugged homestead living” to a whole new level by literally chewing through our internet and computer cable.

So while most people go offline for a mindful detox… we went offline because our dog decided to snack on technology. 😂

But don’t worry, we’re back online now, with cables (hopefully) out of reach. Thanks for your patience while we rejoined the modern world!

✨ In the quiet of the morning, the garden teaches us. ✨

Every w**d pulled is a lesson in patience. Every seedling saved is a promise of tomorrow’s harvest.

With our hands in the soil, the dogs keeping watch, and the sun rising behind the evergreens, this is the work that sustains us.

Homesteading isn’t just about food. It’s about rhythm, resilience, and remembering that abundance grows from small, steady efforts.

And after last night’s rain? The earth feels alive again. 💃🕺
