We’ve taken no mow may pretty seriously around the homestead 🌼

Little hands have helped pick these dandelions over the last few days, to help create the very beginning of our upcoming dandelion-infused face serum.

Left tray: freshly picked yesterday.
Right tray: two days of air drying before a final trip through the dehydrator and into oil for a long slow infusion.

From field to jar - it’s all done by hand, right here at Elm Acres in River John, Pictou County.

Bread photoshoot! 🍞
I finally got some amateur photos for our marketing that actually do these loaves some justice. I’m proud to say it was mostly Aleena’s creative spirit behind the scenes.

There’s something really rewarding about creating together and watching this little homestead dream grow with the whole family pitching in 🤎

We’ve expanded our homestead! ✨
Meet Sky (a personality hire), Rain & Sir William — our newest family pets and future breeding trio. 🐇

They have taken over our shower stall until their cages arrive. They don’t seem to mind the arrangement. With sooo many snuggles and attention from kids they are definitely getting a warm welcome. 🩶

The quiet anticipation of a new growing season has set in.

While the ground is still white, we’re already reflecting on last year and mapping out the pivots for 2026. More of the staples that carry us through winter. Focusing on crops that store well, preserve well, and feed us long after the garden sleeps.

This year brings a few new trials, including salad greens, more added to the food forest, and extras specifically for preserving. We’re hoping to share more of what fills our pantry — tomato sauces and paste, salsa, chow, pickles — beyond the sprinkle to last year’s small circle of friends and family.

We’re also extending the herb beds with the intention of drying and offering herbs well into fall and winter, hopefully alongside our own beef.

These months of planning are quiet, but they hold so much possibility.
If you could see one staple added this season — something grown, preserved, or prepared — what would you be most excited to have access to?
