This video hits close to home. 🌾

As a farmer-owned, multi-generation Certified seed company serving the Parkland region for over 70 years we know firsthand what's at stake when it comes to the future of public plant breeding in Canada.

About 90% of Canada's cereals, pulses, and other small-seeded crops come from independent, often family-run seed businesses just like ours. Together we represent over $1.7 billion in infrastructure, thousands of rural jobs, and deep roots in the communities we call home.

We're proud to be part of that story and we're committed to making sure it continues.

Are you searching for a high yielding, widely adaptable barley variety for your farm?

At Keating Seed Corp we grow AAC Synergy barley every year because it performs so well on our farm and our customers keep asking for it too. And the numbers certainly speak for themselves. AAC Synergy has been the most seeded malt barley variety in Western Canada three years running, holding 35.6% of acres in 2025. That's more than double the next closest variety.

If you'd like to add Synergy to your 2026 crop plan, give us a call.

Five years running, six crops through the plant and one record-breaking winter! 🏆

Our new seed plant just completed its fifth year of operation and we closed it out in style by setting a new all-time record for volume of seed cleaned in one season. Over that time we've also gone from cleaning four different crops to eleven (and counting!) with much greater precision, care and capacity. 🌾

None of that happens without good people so we wanted to offer a huge congratulations to our Production Manager, Nick Burla, and the entire team who made it possible. We're extremely proud of our crew and what we've built here, and incredibly excited for what's ahead. 👏🏼

This past week we celebrated a major milestone for our operation - 40 years of employment for Dwayne Lee on the farm! 🎉

Dwayne's mechanical abilities are second to none, his adaptability through forty years of change in equipment, crops, and people never went unnoticed, and his loyalty and dedication are unmatched. Forty years as part of our farm and we are better for having him.

Here's to Dwayne, a man who has given this farm forty years of his life and done it with skill, with care, and with quiet integrity. 👏👏🥂

Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the Santa parade in Russell, hopefully you had as much fun as we did!

During and after the parade a number of people asked "what is that thing you're towing around?" The answer is that it is a piece of equipment (air/screen machine) out of our old seed plant that we recently decommissioned. We're still trying to determine its exact age but it is definitely 50 years old or more. It's done a pile of work over its lifespan and we thought it was deserving of a bit of public recognition!

“What you can do alone is so little compared to what you can do together.”

We hold a number of team meetings throughout the year—they help keep our operations on track and pulling in the same direction. But the annual get-together we enjoyed this past weekend was simply an opportunity for Claudia and me to express our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the talented people in this photo (plus a couple of key people who couldn’t attend). We are so grateful, and we can’t imagine a more wonderful group to work with on a daily basis.

Thanks to all who took an educated guess in our first ever Free Seed Friday and congrats to the big weener of 100 bushels Certified AAC Wheatland Kyle Rubeniuk! Kyle's guess was 1730 bushels which was very close to the 1710 that was actually in the cart.

Happy harvesting!!

It’s another beautiful harvest day and we’re definitely doing our best to keep the beer drinkers and the beer makers happy!

AAC Synergy is the highest yielding barley variety on the prairies and the most widely accepted variety by the maltsters.

Yields and quality are both exceptional this year so we’ll have a good supply of Certified seed available for 2026!
