Job description: Farm Help - Beef and Sheep Operation
We are searching for reliable, qualified and ambitious individuals to work as a Farm worker on our family Beef and sheep operation.
We are in need of a full time Farm Help(self manager) that can be loyal to the farm and operate the farm and care for the animals like they were theirs. Ideally you would be an experienced farm raised person that understands farm life. The position provides you with a house and living arrangements on-site at the farm location.
There are two separate living quarters (upstairs two-bedroom house with laundry facilities) downstairs there is a two bedroom completely finished separate apartment with laundry facility available for the farm labour helper or casual helpers.
The farm owners (husband and wife and Kids) live across the road in a separate house.
The extra help is needed to ensure the smooth operation of our Beef/Cattle and Sheep Operation. The farm is expanding to provide other services such as custom service help and transportation and farm land clearing due to expansion plans. Landscaping and preparation of ground from capital expansion of barn will be needed.
The compensation package provides a great opportunity for an individual with some relevant experience who may like to live on a farm or in a rural area with no obligation as all utilities are covered (heat, hydro, internet).
Farm working hours may depend on weather and livestock schedule for example, calving and lambing season. At times this may mean weekends, evenings, or stat holidays as livestock care is 24/7. We do our best to be accommodating wherever possible however the nature of farming means we cannot offer a 9am-5pm position. Candidates seeking a strict 9 am to 5 pm work schedule are asked not to reply to this ad.
Work includes feeding animals regularly, daily chores, planting, cultivating and harvesting crops and gardening for commercial use. The candidate must have the ability to operate farm machinery and heavy equipment (i.e. tractor, harvester etc). heavy equipment includes and you may possibly be asked to use an excavator and dozer and dump truck which are all used on the farm. Physical work is also required such as cleaning pens, doing hay, fencing, assist with shearing sheep, moving cattle around, assisting them with birth and various other farm related tasks. Construction working experience is asset as building repair and maintenance may be required.
We would prefer someone with some farm or farm related experience. Honesty, honesty and honesty is a must. We are looking for an honest and ethical person who is not ashamed to admit they have no experience or don't know how to do something or a specific task but is willing to learn and try their best.
Throughout the day you will have various tasks that need to be completed such as machinery or equipment repair or feeding animals. You will need to be able to be a self starter and manage your workload accordingly as the owners of the farm also own other businesses and are active in other businesses so will not be micro-managing your workload. Co workers are in the area for training and support and you’re a phone call away from a video call to explain and show.
The candidate will need to work independently and as a team, be a problem solver and have sound judgment as situations arise. Basic mechanical skills and construction skills are and will be considered as a big asset. Valid drivers licenses is a must as the company vehicle is provided (pick up truck, ATV, snowmobile, tractors, dozers, dump truck, excavators) are being used on the farm and cell phone are all tools needed for the work load. A "D" or "AZ" licenses would be considered an asset.

Please note this Job is in Ontario and note that employment standard and obligation for farm are different from your standard employment. A full and detailed employment contract will be provided.
We think it's a unique experience and opportunity that we are providing. We will be picky with who we chose and we are not looking for somebody who simply loves their horse and is looking to board them here. Even though it may be an option but you need to be able to do the work required. Individual personality and interest is a must and we will take our time and use our better judgment to see if you're a fit. If you’re a big drinker and like to party all the time or smoke a little too much of what’s now has been legalized in Canada this job is not for you as you need to be able to respond to animal care on a moments notice which may require you to operate machinery.
Farming is a lifestyle and we realize it may not be a fit for everyone but for those that choose it, you choose it because you love it. You will not be working around the clock, free time to enjoy life and spare time will be available as there is other employees on the farm but the applicant must understand the work day is often based on the weather forecast.
We think this is a great place to live away from the crazy city life and it's pollution. Clear air fresh water and the beauty of nature is all around us.
The owner, his wife and two young children live on the farm across the road. We own about 560 acres and rent another 400 acres. We have about 150 head of cattle and 200 sheep. It is an active growing farm. Very nicely landscaped farm that needs to be cleaned up now a little. The farm does own an excavator, gravel truck to do lots of landscaping. Must be an animal lover that treat animals with care but understands they are farm animals and are raised for a purpose, still today most people are not vegetarian or vegan.
This is an amazing opportunity for someone who is not afraid of a little hard work when the weather is nice and truly “wants” and “understands” what farm life is all about and all the rewards that come with it.
Please note the salary posted as option was given will be negotiated but the posted amount on the high end has a portion that reflects the value of a living residence and other benefits to be discussed.
A criminal record check will be required.

To all interested candidates,
If you don't have a formal résumé, that's perfectly fine. If you're interested in the position, please send me an email or a message with some relevant information about yourself—specifically, why you believe I should consider you for the job.
Please avoid focusing on things like what the accommodations look like, if you can bring your horse, or board your animals on the farm. Those topics can be discussed later. Right now, I’m looking to understand why I should give you a call and potentially start the interview process.
In your message, please include details such as:
Your past work experience that's relevant to farm work
If you grew up on a farm
Any agricultural education or training (e.g., ag college)
Other useful skills: mechanics, construction, heavy equipment operation
Whether you're physically fit, reliable, and a good team player
The more I can learn about how you can be an asset to the team, the better.
If your initial message looks like a good fit, we’ll move to a phone call. From that call, you might decide it's not for you—or we may move forward to a formal interview. During the call, I’ll also go over compensation and other job details.
Farm life isn’t for everyone. So let me know why you think you'd be a good fit for the lifestyle and the work. If you're coming with your family, please mention if they’re okay with you working on the farm, and whether they’re looking for work or schools, etc.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
