Farmer Ilya asked perhaps the craziest question of them all; Peas or Carrots?
My Farmer brain instantly thinks Carrots. Carrots are a fundamental part of my crop plan, are heavy and a year round crowd-pleaser. They are orange and many other colours making them beautiful in so many dishes or eaten straight out of the ground. As I let a few bolt in the flower patch, they create a flower that is loved by so many predatory insects which are a help to the farm.
On the other hand, Peas make such stunning flowers and delicious pops of flavour as a spring and summer treat. They are some of the first crops that I seed and emerge from cooler soils, some needing very little trellising and no covering at all, compared to the carrot. Peas sway in the gentle late spring breeze and hold each other up as they grow with their little tendrils and are great options for those who are wanting to save their own seed. With Peas also comes the aromatic sweet pea, really the only flower that I intentionally grow. I love that I don't have to wash or bunch peas before they go to market and are so versatile in the kitchen

I really couldn't choose one or the other as they both add so much beauty and diversity to the farm. I have also consulted Finlay on several occasions and he agrees.

What do you folks all think? Peas or Carrots?
