The general purpose of the EFA is to lobby to improve the economic and social well-being of farmers in Elgin County, provide members with information on agricultural issues and to increase public awareness of agriculture and the food system.

Our crop signs are up and they look fantastic. These signs aim to educate the public about what is growing in our fields and what these crops are made into. These fields are where your food comes from. Thank you to EFA director Jenna DeCorte for putting these up. See how many you can find on your travels.

The EFA once again participated in discovery week. What's discovery week you ask? Discovery week is where first year medical students from UWO's Schulich school of medicine are placed in places of rural medicine all across rural Ontario. It offers a chance to experience these communities they wouldn't often get to see. Of course there is an ulterior motive. When these students graduate into full blown doctors, we would like for them to consider Elgin County as a place to set up a practice. EFA has gotten involved to showcase our vibrant agricultural industry. Last night we were able to host these students at the Howe Family Market. What a treat! Wagon rides, strawberry tasting, supper and great conversations. Many thanks to our great sponsors: Yarmouth Mutual, Jeff Smith, Elgin County pork producers, Springfield Swans and the Knights of Columbus. Thank you to the Howe Family for hosting and to Erica Unger for organizing.

🚜🌱Applications are now open for the 2026 EFA Educational Bursary!🌱🚜

The Elgin Federation of Agriculture will award a $500 bursary to a first-year post-secondary student connected to an OFA member in Elgin County.

Just a reminder of our Agricultural road safety day tomorrow! There is no better time to learn about road safety with your Agricultural equipment then now!!!! Plus there is pie!

Roads are busier than ever. There seems to be more motorists in areas where farm equipment operates than we have seen before. This can create congestion and maybe even "friction" between farm and other types of traffic. In part of our campaign to keep farmers safe on the road, we are holding a farm equipment road safety day. April 9 we will have speakers from OPP and MTO to teach us what we should and shouldn't be doing on the road. We want to prevent farm vehicle accidents and reduce liability for our farm equipment operators. Please join us from 10:30 to 12:00 on April 9. This is a free event and we encourage farmers, their employees and their family to attend. Let's make the road a safer place.

We are all set up to screen We Lend a Hand. We will be able to offer a few cash ticket sales at the door for both screenings. The matinee is sold out online but there are tickets available online for the evening show. See you folks today.

Wow! Has there ever been alot of interest in the movie We Lend a Hand. Our matinee showing is nearly sold out. We do have some cash tickets left for at the door. The Middlesex Federation of Agriculture held a bonspiel today. Elgin sent a contingent of 5 players brimming with unqualified confidence. We learned the social etiquette in curling is to have the winning team buy the losing team a drink. By that measure, our day was a smashing success.
