What is it like to have a fire in your café?

It’s something you never really think about until it happens to you.

It’s closing your doors one day, thinking it might only be for a little while… and then watching the days turn into weeks.

It’s losing staff.

It’s wondering when you’ll be able to open again.

It’s wondering what happens to the business you worked so hard to build.

It’s insurance, restoration, cleaning, repairs, damaged belongings and decisions you never expected to have to make.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, you have to figure out what happens next.

What happens after loss?

You rebuild.

You rethink.

You reinvent.

We’ve already been closed for a month, and we’ve now learned that it will likely be at least another month before our current café is ready for us again.

And strangely enough, that timeline brings us right to the beginning of something we were already working toward…

our new café.

So instead of reopening our old location for a short time and then closing again to move, we’ve decided that the next time we open our doors, it will be in our new home.

That realization is incredibly bittersweet.

Our little café has held so much life. Celebrations, friendships, first dates, meetings, quiet coffees, busy Saturdays, happy tears and sad ones too. We built something there that became so much more than we ever imagined.

And while we wish this chapter had ended differently, we get to decide what we do with what comes next.

We rebuild.

We rethink.

We reinvent.

And hopefully, we come back a little stronger.

We hope you’ll love this new place as much as you loved the last.

The next chapter of The Sweet Magnolia is coming. 🤍

🌸 WE’RE OFFICIALLY TWO! 🌸

Today marks two whole years since we opened the doors to The Sweet Magnolia. 🤍

Normally, we’d be spending this milestone with all of you — a full café, something sweet, and probably a little too much excitement from us. 😂

But this year looks a little different.

With the fire and the unexpected closure that followed, things haven’t gone quite as planned. Still, we couldn’t let today go by without saying thank you.

Two years ago, we opened our doors with a dream and no idea just how much this little café would become part of our lives.

Over the last two years, we’ve watched you celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and new beginnings. We’ve watched old friends reconnect and new friendships begin. We’ve seen first dates, family get-togethers, quiet mornings alone, big conversations, happy tears and sad ones too.

And somewhere along the way, this little café became so much more than a place to grab coffee and a crepe.

This certainly isn’t how we pictured starting year three, but we’re incredibly grateful for the community that has filled this space with so many memories and stood behind us through it all.

Two years of The Sweet Magnolia. Two years of you. And so much more still to come. 🌸

The last couple of weeks have been a lot.

Last week, we said goodbye to my grandmother. This week, we found ourselves dealing with a fire at the café, an unexpected closure, restoration crews, cleaning, uncertainty, and trying to figure out when we can safely open our doors again.

And then, right in the middle of all of that, we received some news that honestly meant everything to us. 🤍

The Sweet Magnolia has been nominated for Best Breakfast & Brunch AND Best Independent Coffee Shop.

I don't think this news could have come at a time when we needed it more.

When you're exhausted, grieving, and standing in the middle of a café wondering how you're going to put everything back together, it's easy to feel defeated.

And then we found out that you nominated us.

It was this little moment of light in what has felt like a very heavy couple of weeks — and such a beautiful reminder of what we've built here and why we're working so hard to get back.

We're still a relatively new little café. Every person who walks through our doors, comes back for their favourite coffee or breakfast, brings a friend, recommends us, or takes the time to nominate us is helping us build something we once only dreamed about.

So to find out, during one of our hardest weeks, that our community thinks The Sweet Magnolia belongs among the best for breakfast, brunch and independent coffee...

It means more to us than you could possibly know.

And thank you for giving us something really wonderful to celebrate when we needed it most. 🤍

We are so incredibly honoured to have been a part of such a meaningful event in our community. 💛
Watching the passion, energy, and heart that went into the 10th Annual Spelling Bee was truly inspiring. We were honestly in awe of the organizers, volunteers, teams, and everyone behind the scenes who worked so hard to make the night such a success.
To see over $17,000 raised for literacy programs in the North Okanagan-Shuswap is amazing — and a reminder of what a strong and caring community we have here.
Thank you to the Literay Alliance of the Shuswap Society for allowing The Sweet Magnolia to be a small part of such a special evening.

WE HAVE OUR CHAMPIONS!
Huge congratulations to Team Bee-Witched for taking home 1st place at our 10th Annual Spelling Bee! A massive round of applause to our incredible runners-up: Rotary Buzzers and Family Centre Stingers.

This year was a record-breaker—with over $18,000 raised to support community literacy programs right here in the North Okanagan-Shuswap!

This event wouldn't have been possible without our amazing community partners: The Sweet Magnolia for the delicious catering Song Sparrow Hall for being the perfect venue and Beauty and the Beard Photography for capturing all the magic.
