Little Timber Ranch 1810 OPERATIONS CEASED 2026. MONITOR FOR EQUIPMENT SALES. We purchased 81.5 acres of bare land near the South Saskatchewan River south of Saskatoon.

We started a new chapter in our life after retirement in 2019 to raise grass fed and grass finished Katahdin Hair Sheep and the Canadian Horse. The parcel consists of half trees and half native grasslands. We consider ourselves to be grass managers first because without healthy grasslands, the animals can’t be at their best. Gayle previously raised wool sheep for 5 years and when she returned to shepherding decided to raise purebred Katahdins mainly because they didn’t require the agonizing practice of shearing. Katahdins are hair sheep and shed their winter coats in the Spring. We also selected this breed for their hardiness, adaptability, and easy maintenance. We raise registered and commercial purebred Katahdins and lamb on pasture late April/early May. Many of our ewes have parent and grandparent bloodlines from Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the United States (Montana, Louisiana, Georgia, Ohio, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Oregon, and Indiana). We are growing our flock for top traits such as mothering, easy lambing, parasite resistance, Type A or AA coats only, lamb weight gain on grass only, and of course for their wonderful temperaments and easy handling. We currently have 20 ewes, two rams (another one coming soon) and their buddy Walter the Wether. Our lamb crop averages 35-38 lambs which is a lamb crop of about 190%! Our lamb is 100% grass fed and finished. We follow regenerative farming practices by practicing rotational grazing on our pastures. Temporary fencing is used to move the sheep every one to three days to smaller paddocks within the pasture to promote healthy pasture regrowth, improve biodiversity and soil health, and reduce parasite infection in the sheep so that they require none or very little chemical deworming. Our lambs are raised without antibiotics or hormones. When we bought this land it hadn’t been grazed for at least 30 years so we are working hard to maintain and improve the pastures including the native grasses which in turn produces healthy hardy ewes and lambs.

Yesterday I was Alberta Bound and am now back home. I will be taking down my farm page soon but I wanted to first thank everyone who mentored and supported me especially Prk Katahdins and Bobby Torrie. Raising my breedstock and building my genetics was lots of work but very rewarding. It was very difficult to give it up. I am glad to see my genetics doing well for those who bought breedstock. Thank you for believing in my genetics and carrying them forward. I will continue to follow many of you.

I hope to find some sort of connection or work with producers here in Alberta once settled. And of course, I will continue to promote the Katahdin breed.

Our property is still listed so I will be staying with family until it sells and I can buy my own piece of heaven here in the Red Deer area.

My LGD came with me and he is doing really well with transitioning from farm life to “estate acreage” life and being indoors.

I wish everyone great success as they raise Katahdins and promote the breed. And all the best for the upcoming lambing season. May lamb prices climb high!

NEED REHOMING:

Needs Rehoming

Cassandra (Cassie) 9 years old; spayed; excellent health and athletic.

Both are UTD on vaccines including Kennel Cough; chipped.

Cassie currently is a yard dog on a small hobby farm. She is great at keeping coyotes away but smart enough not to engage. She worked with another yard@ dog who has recently been rehomed so depending on your predation pressure she may need another buddy for back up. She is in the house at night; crate trained. She is a house dog in winter as she cannot tolerate long periods of extreme cold due to her short hair.

She is safe around sheep, horses, llamas and other (non aggressive) dogs but unknown re other livestock and cats.

Medium to low energy and would require a large yard at minimum. Cassie loves attention, food, people, and car rides. She is leash trained but will need some fine tuning re pulling. Although 9 years old Cassie is athletic and has no known health issues.

Rehoming due to relocation to another province.

I will be vetting potential new homes carefully.

Posting farm and sheep equipment on this page and relevant FB groups and Marketplace.

It breaks my heart to give up raising Registered Purebred Katahdins as I loved it so much and worked hard to build some great genetics. And I met so many great producers that mentored me and many that were customers. I will be moving back to Alberta to be with my family. No timeline yet but will keep folks posted.
