I think the storm is my fault, I kicked the tractor out of the floral studio. It stays in it all winter to be heated and easily start for blowing snow. But, I was itching for my plants to get inside it and to clean and prep for workshops!

Winter will end right? Soon?

I know it’s hard to imagine right now, but given they have had more than enough chill hours, and will have great moisture, we are only 50 days away from the first peony blooms at the Farm! We have a few spots left in some of the workshops, get yours now and I promise spring will actually come! And with it, we will be bursting with peonies!

Uggggg. Enough snow already! I’m wishing for early morning coffee, and walking the rows for peony checks in the rain as they start to grow. It’s always interesting to see how differently all the varieties come back to life in spring. Before they form the large hedge rows, and are small like this, the timing, growth, structure, colour, size, and shapes are all so individual, just like the blooms.

I know we need the moisture and so I suppose I can handle the snow still coming, but I’d be happier to have a path that doesn’t need to be shoveled leading into the floral studio… and at this point, let’s get rid of snow and instead have spring rains please! Anyone else dreaming of spring rains and blooms?

Peonies in the floral studio, set on my tables handmade by my dad, and cuttings on the floor. One of the best parts of the floral studio is just being free to cut and create with peonies, no worries about messes. I just open the overhead door, sweep it out on to the grass and the lawnmower mulches it. If you haven’t yet enjoyed the delight of creating a peony arrangement in the floral studio, come join us this year at a workshop! We still have some spaces left, book one and enjoy beautiful peony blooms at the Farm, and don’t worry about the mess, just enjoy creating beauty.

The snow is slowly melting! And each day there is more daylight and we inch a little bit closer to the farm and floral studio being filled with blooms again! I can’t wait for early morning coffee in the gardens, walking amongst the little peony buds popping up. What are you looking forward to come spring?

You know who else loves peonies??? Bees! Looking forward to seeing their cute little dances in the peonies soon!

I’m ready for winter to be done, and spring peonies to start poking out of the ground. They have lots of snow, so should have well rested and happy roots come spring, with good moisture for the gardens. And then bring on the blooms!
