You can't taste it. You can't smell it. You can't see it.
That's what makes nitrates in well water easy to ignore.
In rural Saskatchewan, nitrates can enter groundwater from fertilizers, livestock areas, and septic systems. Shallow wells and wells near fields or older farmyards can be more vulnerable.
And while nitrate issues aren’t always obvious, they matter — especially for households with infants, where elevated levels can be a serious concern.
Private wells don’t get monitored automatically.
The only way to know what’s in your water is to test it.
