Canadian disc golf is changing—and Grassland Discs is ready to grow with it. 🇨🇦🥏
Today, new Canadian tariffs took effect, including a 50% surtax on categories covering U.S.-made disc golf equipment. That could mean higher prices for many imported discs.
We don’t celebrate higher prices. We want disc golf to remain accessible and continue growing on both sides of the border.
Grassland is a completely Canadian brand. Last year, trade changes forced us to rebuild our supply chain. Our plastic suppliers were previously in the United States, but we’ve since transitioned to new sources. We made that change to control costs, strengthen our operations and keep great discs reasonably priced.
We’re growing too. Grassland is now a four-person company, with aspirations to involve even more people. We’re developing a Community Leaders Program to connect with clubs across Canada, understand what they need and find meaningful ways to support their growth.
We’re also working on our most ambitious designs yet: innovative new drivers that push what is possible through disc design and manufacturing. When launched, we believe they’ll be something Canadian disc golf can genuinely be proud of.
The changing trade environment has affected us as well. More than half of our early Chickadees were sold in the United States. Since tariffs began affecting cross-border trade, our discs have sold almost exclusively within Canada.
Something that I think is often not understood is that shipping to the U.S. now takes longer, offers less transparency and often must be sent without tracking to remain affordable. That makes it difficult to provide the customer experience they, and we, want.
To the American players who supported us early: thank you. Your encouragement and feedback helped us learn, improve and reach this point.
Grassland Discs is here to stay. We’re growing, innovating and supporting the communities that make this sport special.
If you help lead a Canadian club, league, course or tournament, tell us where you’re from and what would help disc golf grow in your community.
