A long overdue introduction/appreciation post for Noelle and Jonny! They’ve been helping out behind the scenes with weeding, harvesting and bin-washing this summer. (I didn’t mean to keep them a secret, I just felt creepy taking pictures of them at work so I forced them to do a photoshoot last week haha.) These two have put up with A LOT of mosquitoes and have pulled like a million weeds and picked like a million beans and we are very grateful for all of their hard work. Thanks you two!!

Ok our garlic patch got super weedy this year 🙈 BUT sometimes life is like that when you’re an organic farmer and I wanted to show you our new tractor implement, the under-cutter! It’s basically just a sharp blade that slices underneath the roots and saves us sooooo much digging. We’ll be using it on carrots and beets, too. We purchased it using bursary money we were awarded last year from the SK Chamber of Commerce, so big thanks to them! Also, despite all the weeds, we’re getting pretty good yields! Please drop a comment if you might be interested in a bulk order… I’ll be organizing garlic sales in the coming weeks once it’s all cured, cleaned and sorted.

Maidstone CSA: Week Four

Lettuce, mini onions, cabbage, “Sungold” cherry tomatoes, zucchini, “Dragon’s Tongue” beans, purple cauliflower, cucumbers, rainbow carrots, new potatoes and fresh garlic 🧄

The purple cauliflower is a new variety we’re trialling this year called “Murasaki Fioretto 70.” We only bought 20 seeds to try which means we only have enough for our smaller Maidstone CSA… BUT it’s actually a sprouting variety! So after the main head is harvested, the plants will continue sending out sprouts for several weeks (similar to broccolini), which means our Saskatoon CSA members should keep an eye out for bunches of purple cauli in the swap bin!
