Our handsome Ram The Dude, I continue to be cautiously happy with him, he’s in an awkward growth stage plus shedding for spring haha but his lambs are gorgeous.
He continues to be pretty respectful as well which is most important to us, he takes it VERY seriously when I’m in with my daughter and stomp my foot at him, gets right out of our space.

Looking forward to the next couple of months, 2026 will start off quickly with lambs likely due to start coming late February. Lots of first time ewes this time around so it will be interesting. Most exiting will be seeing who has and who throws horns.

Pictured is Odin my retired heeler and Belle one of my foundation ewes.

Tumblr user probablyasocialecologist:

"Maintaining the biodiversity of sheep is not just important for knitters and spinners, but for the health of the environment. Essentially, a sheep functions like a carbon sequestration system. Atmospheric carbon makes up 50 percent of wool's weight, and, unlike synthetic fabrics, wool is naturally biodegradable. When disposed of, wool acts like a fertilizer, slowly releasing valuable nutrients and carbon back into the soil. Wool fixed carbon in the topsoil rather than releasing it into the atmosphere. This process can help regenerate pastures, which sheep will graze. And sheep can help answer the problem of how to avoid far-flung fiber supply chains. Because sheep do well in such an extraordinary range of terrains, wool is a natural choice for people interested in rebuilding local systems of cloth manufacture. Certain breeds are more suited to certain atmospheric and geologic conditions than others, so preserving diversity also means preserving the geographic range in which sheep can flourish."

Hoping we will have lambs hitting the ground come February, really excited in some ways and already praying in others haha.

I’d hoped to be going into this with Auroras leadership over the flock but she kind of opted out of that, so we have plenty of first timers and no truly seasoned ewes setting examples.

But I’m very excited to see what comes from our new Ram and the ewes I’ve been keeping back and growing the flock with, especially Mulan, Petronia and their horn genetics.

Another very good reason to turn to local producers, you know you’re getting real meat.

Another very good reason to turn to local producers, you know you’re getting real meat.

In Canada, products derived from cloned livestock and pigs were previously classified as "novel foods," but Health Canada will begin phasing out this category starting in November 2025. This change will allow meat and dairy products from clones to enter the market without special labeling or prior review. The decision is based on an assessment conducted between 2023 and 2024, which concluded that there are no health risks or significant differences compared to conventional animals. However, the move has sparked concern over the lack of transparency and potential impacts on consumer trust, despite the scientific backing.
