The lambing season started off a bit rocky this year, but we've wrapped up with 6 ewes and 1 ram lamb this year! The sole ram lamb has been castrated and will become a pasture buddy for the handsome new registered Shetland ram lamb, who will be our new ram and arrived on the farm a couple of weeks ago from Middle Musquodoboit. Ann also brought another registered ewe mama to the farm and will begin our breeding season in October (see pics). Shetland sheep have been on the farm for 8(ish) years now and I love this breed, but we're breeding towards a registered flock to improve genetics, fleece quality, and profitability!
The shearer was here in June to remove the flock's winter coats (Thanks Eric!) and they'll be shorn again in the fall this year to take a good clip for processing into yarn - fingers crossed!
The new permanent fencing is pretty well complete and I'm loving the new gates & accessibility (thanks Joel!). The flock is happily munching dew-moistened pastures in a rotation these days.
A gentle reminder to please keep your dogs leashed when passing by on a walk or visiting the farm.

FIND US! at the Wolfville Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, online in the Annapolis Valley and HRM at WFM2Go, or on the farm when you can catch us or by appointment.

Pastured Beef, Free Range Chicken, Pastured Pork (2020!), a few sheep, a couple of dairy goats, a draft horse, laying hens & roosters, and a family with little kids, grit, hard work and “managed” chaos!
