The mission…

I don’t think my mission is to sell microgreens.

I think my mission is bigger than that.

I want a future where more of the food eaten in Greater Victoria and across the South Island is grown right here at home. Right here on our rock, Vancouver Island.

Where communities know their farmers.

Where food doesn’t need to travel thousands of kilometres.

Where you can stop by at the farm gate and chat with the farmer who’s also your neighbour.

Where fresh produce is available 52 weeks of the year.

That’s why we grow 365 days a year.

That’s why, after 4 years in business, we’ve completed more than 200 consecutive harvests since 2022.

That’s why we offer free weekly delivery.

Not because it’s easy.

Because it’s important.

Because local food systems are important

Every tray is one small step toward a more resilient local food system.

And we’re only getting started.

The Grocery Store Problem”

Most people don’t realize this…

The average vegetable on your plate may have traveled thousands of kilometers before you eat it.

Mine travel about 15 minutes.

Three years ago I was working on ships and started asking myself a question:

“What happens if Vancouver Island’s supply chain gets disrupted?”

That question led me to build a vertical farm in Sidney.

Today we grow fresh microgreens every week and deliver them directly to local families.

No warehouses.
No cross-country trucking.
No sitting on a shelf for a week.

Same here on Vancouver Island

Food security is not something we can afford to ignore.

Sadly, the fuel crisis and the skyrocketing cost of fertilisers and petrochemical products coming from overseas are now severely impacting food production here in Australia.

Farmers are being forced into difficult decisions, including whether they can even afford to plant crops at all. That should concern every one of us.

Australia is not as secure in fresh food production as many people think. I’ve been speaking about this for some time now, and I honestly believe we cannot take our eye off the ball.

Wherever you live, if you’ve got access to even a small patch of soil, use it.

A few pots on a balcony.
A front yard.
A nature strip.
A backyard corner.

Anything is better than nothing.

And to be honest, growing some of your own food is something we should be doing anyway, for our health, our resilience, and our families.

I understand that for some people it feels overwhelming. But often we overcomplicate what is actually very simple.

Start small, plant a few things, learn as you go. Follow along with my daily posts and I’ll continue showing you practical ways to grow nutrient-dense food without spending a fortune.

Many of you already on this journey know exactly what I mean. Some of you might even like to share in the comments how much food you’re now producing from your own garden spaces.

Because every tomato, every lettuce, every handful of herbs grown at home is one small step toward food security.
