Dahlia season! The dahlias are the best we have ever had this year! Healthy, prolific, gorgeous, bug and disease free.

Why is this? Well like any farming it is a combination of our experience and practices and the weather. We had a long cool spring and this gave them a great start that is paying off now….

We have about 300 plants and we are pulling many buckets of blooms out of this patch. So many in fact that we are doing lots of dahlia only mixed market bouquets for the first time ever!

So if you love dahlias, you had best run down to Kootenay Co-op in Nelson and snag one before the season ends!

Zinnia season is in full swing! The annual fields are popping and we are stuffing loads of them into our market bouquets and the barn for dried bouquets.

Zinnia are very ‘dirty blooms’ and tend to turn your vase water nasty. A teaspoon of household bleach is very helpful to keep the water and help the blooms last longer in the vase. Fresh water on day 3 is also very helpful for the longest lasting blooms!

Enjoy the rainbow!

**** fully booked for the season now*****

Our raspberry patch is about to pop and we don’t have experienced staff to pick this year.

So, we need you to come and pick your own!

Here is the fine print…

- PM, call 250-226-6996 or email [email protected] to book your requested time.
- more then one person can come (max 4) but everyone must be 14 years and up (please leave the kiddos at home for this work)
-20$ cash per person no matter how much or little you pick (a decent picker should be able to do at least 4 pounds)
- bring your own containers, hat, water, sunscreen, etc to be self sufficient.
- once you are ready to go we hit a timer and then you GO!

Hit us with questions or booking your time!

Alex and I did a really big planting push today! We were behind due to either too cold nights or to hot days…. Hopefully we will get another 3k in by the end of the week!

We cut the first 60 peonies on mothers day and have been cutting hard in the peony house since then. I expect we will have 1,000 cuts or more total from the house, holding 200 plants.

The rest of the peonies in the field, more then 700 plants are coming along nicely and will likely start to bloom in the next few weeks. We hope to not have much of a gap in supply :-) The field peonies will be filling bouquets typically until the end of June or early July!

Will we? Yes I believe we will start cutting peonies in the coming days!

In the fall of 2024 Brad built the caterpillar tunnel over 200 of our earliest season peonies.

These peonies where planted in the fall of 2021 and it takes 3-4 years for a new planting to reach full production.

As I bet you can imagine this was a big investment in the future with a pretty price tag that came along with it :-)

Last spring was the first early harvest from this house, and we missed mother’s day by one week…. 😭😩😭

We made some changes to our process to try and push a bit harder!

So are we going to make Mothers Day weekend this year? YES I do believe we will! With a few cuts anyway…. Plan to join us for our flower festival mothers day weekend, sat and Sunday 10-3 pm and see for yourself!
