📢That’s a wrap on Frozen North 2026!

Thank you to everyone who visited us at Tyhee Lake Provincial Park this summer, supported our students, tried something new, shared a post, brought friends and family, or simply stopped by to say hello. Every purchase helped support something much bigger than a summer canteen & concession.

Frozen North is a non-profit, youth-focused business training and entrepreneurship program operated by the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce. Throughout the season, our students gained hands-on experience in customer service, food preparation, inventory, marketing, local procurement, partnerships, teamwork and the realities of operating a small business.

Our program also celebrates the local circular economy, connecting customers with products from local and regional farmers, food producers, makers and businesses while promoting local food, sustainability, active living and community connection.

Despite some weather challenges this season and bears hanging around in the last week, our students kept showing up, learning and serving our community right through to our final day.

To our customers, partners, producers, students and everyone who championed Frozen North this summer: THANK YOU. Your support made this learning opportunity possible and helped us invest directly in local youth and our regional economy.

🤍 Thank You, Layka!

As we head into the final hours of Frozen North’s 2026 season, we’re also saying a big thank you to another member of our student team, our youngest student, Layka!

Layka brought enthusiasm and an outstanding attitude to Frozen North this summer. From serving up some seriously impressive ice cream to welcoming customers and helping with the day-to-day operation of our little business at Tyhee Lake, she has been a spark plug at Frozen North this summer!!!

At its heart, Frozen North is a youth employment and entrepreneurship program. It gives students an opportunity to learn by doing: customer service, teamwork, food preparation, local sourcing, marketing and the many moving pieces that go into operating a small business.

Thank you, Layka, for spending your summer learning, creating and growing with us. We hope you take some great memories and valuable experience from your time at Frozen North, and we wish you all the best as you head back to school!

📢 Thank you, Ivy! Another member of our Frozen North team has officially wrapped up her summer employment!

A huge thank you to Ivy for all of the creativity, enthusiasm and efforts she brought to Frozen North this season. From serving customers and learning the ins and outs of running a small business, to helping create some pretty spectacular ice cream creations, Ivy brought her own personality and ideas to the program.

Frozen North is about much more than ice cream. At its heart, it’s a youth employment, entrepreneurship and hands-on business training program, giving young people the opportunity to build real-world skills in customer service, food service, inventory, local sourcing, teamwork and day-to-day business operations.

We’re grateful to Ivy for being part of that journey and for helping make our season at Tyhee Lake such a memorable one.

What an awesome season it’s been at Frozen North at Tyhee Lake!

Even though the Tyhee campground has officially closed, Frozen North is STILL OPEN, and we’re operating through to Sunday, September 6!

📢 A BIG THANK YOU TO KIRSTEN!

We’re already saying goodbye to another important member of our Frozen North team. Our Student Supervisor, Kirsten, has officially wrapped up her season with Frozen North, and we want to recognize and thank her for the leadership, planning, mentorship and support she brought to our student team this summer.

Frozen North is first and foremost a hands-on youth business training program. Behind every cone scooped, coffee poured, local product sold and customer served is an opportunity for our students to learn about entrepreneurship, customer service, inventory, food service, teamwork, problem-solving and what it takes to operate a small business.

Having strong mentorship is an important part of making that learning possible. Thank you, Kirsten, for helping guide our students, supporting day-to-day operations and being part of the Frozen North journey at Tyhee Lake this summer!

And just like that… we’re heading into our FINAL WEEK of Frozen North for the 2026 season!☀️ Rain or shine, we’re OPEN! So bundle up if you need to, make the trip out to Tyhee and help us finish the season strong.

🥥 ISLAND VIBES AT TYHEE!

Okay, these might be one of the coolest frozen treats we’ve brought into the Frozen North! Meet Island Way Sorbet, hand-made fruit sorbet served right inside its natural fruit shell. Coconut in a coconut shell, citrus in citrus… simple, fun, refreshing and absolutely made for an afternoon at Tyhee Lake.

The variety flight includes flavours like Heavenly Coconut, Red Berry & Ruby Grapefruit, Mandarin Orange and Tangy Lemon.

They’re a fun alternative when you’re looking for something a little different from a traditional ice cream product.

As quickly as summer arrived, we’re already starting to say goodbye to our Frozen North summer team!

Yesterday was Mason’s last day with Frozen North, and we want to send a thank you his way for being part of this year’s team. Frozen North is much more than serving ice cream and great local food. At its heart, it’s a youth employment and experiential business training program, giving local students an opportunity to build real-world skills in customer service, operations, entrepreneurship, teamwork, local food systems and small business.

Mason jumped into the experience this summer and helped us bring Frozen North to life at our new Tyhee Lake location. We’re grateful for his contribution, and everything he brought to the team.

As our students finish their summer employment and begin heading off to university or back to school, Frozen North will gradually be winding down for the season too. It’s always bittersweet. We’re proud to see our students move on to their next adventures, but we’ll certainly miss having this crew together!

Thank you, Mason, for spending your summer with us. We wish you all the best in what comes next!

And thank you to everyone who has stopped by Frozen North this summer. Every cone, coffee, meal and local product purchased helps make opportunities like these possible for local youth while supporting our broader local economy.

Our Frozen North team has officially taken the ice cream flight to the next level. Choose your flavours and let our staff have a little fun with the rest! From fruit and locally made honeycomb toffee to brownies, artisan candy and other delicious toppings, every flight can be its own custom creation.
