We've started on our garlic harvest this year and for those of you who also grow your own garlic one of the things your are looking for is the three bottom leaves to have died off. This provides a nice balance between growth and protective papers for storage.
Our garlic won't be available for a while as the next step is letting all those protective papers dry to maximize storage life.

It's garlic scape season and we'll have them available tomorrow at the Bulkley Valley Farmers' Market .
What is a scape? It is the "flower" of the garlic and if it's left to grow to maturity it will contain many tiny garlic cloves.
Some of the ways they can be used is in stirfries, soups and stews, pickled or made into relish or pesto.
