OUR LATEST PROJECT at Herbourne Shorthorns with a small remnant of our herd 4 or 5 head.

We’ve started a flush of this pair. The Donor is Eionmor Springtime 63A. She was originally my expected pick of any Female with her calf at SaskValley Shorthorns purchased in the Agribition Sale of 2023. At the time of purchase 63A was thought to be safe in calf to their Glam 68G bull, a bloodline I really would like to have. Murphy’s law as June approached and the time to pick up my purchase, she was discovered to be open.

I ended up picking up an Anne cow sired by Saskvalley Glam 68G and purchased 63A as well even though she was open. She was successfully flushed with 6 good embryos collected, 3 of which were used producing 2 calves. A second flush was not successful.

She was bred to our home raised bull HWA 2M (HERBOURNE MTE MINTO 2M) the 2 year old bull in the picture. A stillborn calf was born a month and a 1/2 early. Terribly disappointed but I liked the look of the stillborn calf.

Had plans to ship the cow but felt I would not be doing the Shorthorn breed justice if I didn’t try a flush again. Keep in mind 63A had produced exceptionally well for Saskvalley for 11 years with all her calves in the top indexing bracket.

She is coming 14 years old next spring and look at her yet! She produced my best ever walking bull Saskvalley Corporate 21C. At present she has had all her shots, is bred and awaiting collection on June 18. Please hope and pray with me for a successful flush. Keep in touch.

The bull HWA 2M pictured carries some of our best female bloodlines and noted sires such as Thermal Energy, Glenford Gus 40N, Sutherland Bundaberg and Butterfield Able Seaman. Any calves from this flush will definitely be performance cattle! with structural and udder correctness from the Muridale breeding in Thermal Energy.

Teresa found p***y willows on our yard a couple days ago and made a bouquet for us. We are amazed at how thick they are on the stems. Fat, fuzzy signs of spring.

A big thank you to Winnpeg Livestock Sales for accommodating us and accepting something that was for them something abnormal. They gave us a special pen that had hay and water and was right near the auction ring so interested parties could view the heifers at the break between the butcher sale and the feeder sale. Even a special announcement about the heifers and when exactly they would be coming in the ring!

I’m sure they noticed a higher numbers of people in the stands and abnormally high no. of bids coming from the stands plus the regular buyers at the sale. it was very encouraging for us and eventful for them. —Bill

Among those who were in the stands who were potential bidders, someone who had never visited the Sales facility before, Junior members who have followed our herd, former customers who used the trip to bring cattle for the butcher sale, people who have visited our herd and were following the action.

I sometimes felt we were being a high maintenance client, but everyone was gracious and patient and did their best to give us a good sale. I hope everyone had fun and we were not too much of an interruption to your rhythm of the day.

Thanks for the promotion on the page. - Isabel

The two red heifers, 14N & 16N, sold for the top price of $6600 each to Junior member Sigga Vigfusson of Lundar. Sigga helped us out at the Lundar Fair in 2024 and has been trying to get a Herbourne animal in other sales.

The white heifer, 13N, sold for $6000 to Robert Kell of Elm Creek, a buyer in past years. Delivered to his yard, and saw a strong Shorthorn herd coming through the trees to meet her.

Only 2 more sleeps…or maybe just one if you read this in the morning!
