Its been a nice break from rain. I managed to cut the grass in the goat pen (because they'd rather shove their heads through the fence and eat my bushes than touch the grass 😆). Got the goat playground pressure washed and the shelters mucked out and fresh shavings put down for the next round of kidding.
Last babies were born Boxing Day, New Year's Day, my Birthday and Canada Day... so I'm thinking maybe this coming long weekend 😉

Had a late start to the garden this year. I did not get a seed (or transplant) into the ground until the middle of June! Did a garden walk through today and I am seriously amazed at how far along things have come so quickly. My marigolds have bushed up, I've got peppers coming in, cucumbers coming in, lots of tomatoes starting, pumpkins and squash are flowering and the potato plants look great but could very possibly be rotting underground 🤣 The beans and peas were the last things in the ground only about 4 weeks ago but they're flowering as well. This summer has been wild 🤪 I haven't watered since the day I dropped the seeds which has been amazing 😂 I am just waiting on that big beautiful Cubanelle Pepper so I can stuff nit with some of our pork sausage!

Little Lady is having her first heat cycle so she gets to wear the diaper of shame and live inside the house away from the boys 😆 We don't like to have our dogs fixed until they've reached full maturity so we don't interfere with the hormones they need for growth, this is extra important for large breed dogs. We watch them very carefully and keep them separated so we don't have unwanted pregnancies 🐶

Was a late night for me! Spent some time sitting on the deck listening for that telltale crack before the tree falls but eventually sitting outside became too dangerous so I hauled the livestock dogs inside and we waited. The furniture I was sitting in was soon relocated and I was very thankful it didn't come in through the porch windows. I've counted 6 downed trees around our immediate home area, 3 took out fencing along the North side of the pig pasture. Thankfully the pigs were tucked away for the night and all are accounted for. No damage to any equipment or infrastructure other than that fenceline so we will count ourselves blessed.

It's been a long and frustrating winter, spring and summer and it can be hard to feel thankful but when I bitch and moan about humidity, mud and mosquitoes I have to remind myself that we really have been lucky and many of our neighbour's and surrounding communities are dealing with devastating losses so a little frustration and discomfort is not worth grumbling about.

Friendly reminder that fleas and ticks thrive in high humidity and all the extra tall grass from the rain isn't helping matters! The fleas and ticks are out of control this year so this is a friendly reminder to get your canines treated if you haven't already! I was late on our summer treatment and Tank brought home some fleas after a fox wandered up our driveway 🤮

It is A LOT of work to flea shampoo 5 XL dogs plus blow dry to apply treatment. And then clean and spray dog houses, beds, blankets, furniture etc...... Soooooo go get that flea and tick prevention folks!!! Do as I say and not as I do 😂😂
