This is our fourth season.

We have made a lot of mistakes. We have also grown more food than we ever thought we would. We have learned what this land can do and what it cannot. We have had hard years and good years and years that were both at once.

What we did not expect was how much we would miss it if we stopped.

That is probably the clearest thing we can say about why we are still here.

One of the reasons we farm is to feed ourselves.

Not just in season. Through the whole year. We grow it, we preserve it, we put it away. The goal was never just a garden — it was not needing to wonder where our food comes from in January.

Canning, drying, freezing. It took a few seasons to get the rhythm right. We are still learning.

But there is something about opening a jar in February that you grew in August. It does not get old.
