It is with great sadness that Jim McBride of Goldenview Farms passed away at the age of 94 years on the 19th of January 2025. Jim with his wife Ruth started their Limousin herd while living in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1970, McBride Limousin.
Jim was a founding member of the Manitoba Limousin Association and was also a founder/member of the Canadian Limousin Association and the North American Limousin Foundation. In 1974 Jim and Ruth moved to Calgary, Alberta and established Goldenview Farms in High River, Alberta.
Goldenview was known far and wide in North America and together with Nordic Farms of Campellville, Ontario shared the first Limousin Leader of the Year award in 1975. Jim was also chairman of the successful 1982 Limousin World Congress held in Calgary. Over the years Goldenview had won nearly every honor in the major shows across Canada culminating in the sale of a quarter interest of one cow, Pertinent for $250,000.00. Jim also imported the highly sought after bull, Harvest Olympus. Jim and Ruth were presented the Award of Distinction in 1996.
Goldenview Farms dispersed on August 13, 1988. Their highly
sought after Full French Limousin herd of 104.75 lots grossed $998.350.00 for an average of $9530.00. Cattle sold to six provinces, 15 states and Australia.
Jim was known as an astute businessman and a great promoter of
the Limousin breed. Jim was predeceased by his wife and partner Ruth in 2020 and his grandson Patrick in 2024. He is survived by his daughter Patti McBride.
