Last week we had the opportunity to travel to the west coast of Newfoundland to visit farms, connect with researchers at the Western NL Research Station, and attend the Women in Ag Conference.

It was an inspiring few days filled with great discussions, fresh perspectives, and a strong sense of community in agriculture across our province. Thank you to Women in Agriculture NL and Iris Meck for organizing the event and bringing together such an engaged group of people.

At Data Farms, we’re focused on delivering practical tools like soil, weather, and crop insights that help farmers make informed decisions every day.

We had a great visit to the Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture NL Western Agriculture Centre & Research Station! 🌱 It was really cool hearing directly from the scientists about their research and the important work they’re doing to support farmers here in NL.

Big thanks to Andy and Sharon at Wright's Family Farm and NL Federation of Agriculture for hosting such a lovely meetup. We had a blast connecting with farmers and others working across agriculture! 🚜🌾

🌩️ What a storm last night! One of our farms got over 8mm of rain in under an hour—while another just 30km away stayed bone dry. 😳 That kind of microclimate difference is exactly why hyper-local weather data matters.
After weeks of hot, dry weather, the crops are definitely happy for the drink. 🌱💧

It’s a beautiful May on the farm — the soil’s waking up, early crops are settling in, pollinators are busy, and everything is finally waking up after a long winter.

Of course, island weather keeps us guessing: sunshine, rain, and an 16°C temperature drop all in one day!

It’s the kind of spring that reminds you why we never pack away our winter layers — and why farming here takes a special kind of stubborn.
