Our 60 day review of the Rex Nordic heater.
We are reviewing the model AH-201
Tested in a 20x32 Greenhouse, 24x24 Insulated Garage.
We have put this heater to the test on a farm setting both in a greenhouse and insulated garage.
The Good ; puts out a great amount of radiant heat ( radiant being the key word ). It is simple to use, offers both wifi support as well as the option to hook up to a lte mobile stick for remote applications that are within cellular range. The app is responsive, instructions are clear and overall the unit is sturdy and key components are protected from you burning yourself.
The Bad ; Although the claim this unit is great for greenhouses it falls short of its advertisement. It was not able to keep up with Manitobas relentless winters and at the price point of $2700 + tax there are far better alternatives.
When the heater is unable to overcome the falling temps it will throw a misfire code. Most likely a fault protection on its programming.
The company claims it has zero smell, as a ventless diesel heater, we found that while there was not a huge smell of exhaust it was still very faintly there and the catalyst chamber did not complete get rid of that smell.
Like propane burning appliances this unit also introduces moisture, attempting to use this in applications like drywall mudding and taping this unit would not be a great fit.
With that being said, we did find this unit excelled in insulated spaces, with concrete base flooring. The walls, and floor are able to absorb the radiant heat this unit puts out making it feel warm and cozy in that workspace. Unlike traditional force air heaters where heat rises the Rex heater penetrates tradition workshop spaces effectively heating the area.
Overall, we give the Rex Nordic a 2.5 / 5. For its price point we feel there are better alternatives but this unit and its features are ahead of the game in comparison to other options and do not disappoint.
