Wild Rose Icelandic Horse Farm

Wild Rose Icelandic Horse Farm We offer professional Icelandic Horse training and riding lessons. Specializing in a solid foundation for both horse and rider. Established since 1998.

Young horse, trail and pleasure horse training, breeding show training, and problem horse training. Wild Rose Icelandic Horse Farm is a picturesque farm located near the Rocky Mountains of Alberta Canada. We offer a variety of services including starting and training of young horses, training and showing of breeding horses, trail riding training, mountain riding training, gait training, and proble

m solving training with horses that have become difficult due to pain issues or human error. We also offer horse sales, lessons and do clinics on a limited basis. The main focus of the training here for young horses and trail horses is to encourage a people loving and trusting partner that trys to please it's rider, that trusts it's rider and has experience with many of the usual hazards in everyday life. For the show horses our main goals are to train horses that show to their best capabilities with large supple steps, high lift and lots of speed and strength while still remaining soft and light on the bit, solid in their dressage work and rideable by their owners. We do not push the horses past the point of ruining them like many trainers. We firmly believe that building up the horse properly is the key to their best performance. Danielle Fulsher(Walton) and Kyle Walton run this beautiful farm in Alberta. Kyle is the man behind the scenes for everything from fixing and maintaining the trucks to helping with the horses and maintaining the farm. Danielle who is the farm manager and head trainer, has been riding consistently since 1985 and started training Icelandic horses professionally in 1998. Since then she has trained horses all over Canada, in the US and has recently returned from a 3 year stay in Iceland. While in Iceland, Danielle worked with numerous FT trainers and had the opportunity to work with and train for some of the very top riders and Landsmot winners. She has extensive experience working with young horses and problem horses using patience and calming positive methods. A trainer in Iceland nick named her 'the Canadian horse whisperer' because of her ability to settle and befriend untouched wild horses in a very short period of time. She has also ridden many horses in breeding shows and competitions in Iceland and Canada. In 2001, Danielle trained and rode Erill fra Sperdi to the first prize status of 8.13 which set the record as the first North American trainer to train an Icelandic horse to first prize status. As well in 2015 Danielle trained Blika 08 fra Fitjamyri to first prize status with 8.42 for ridden abilities. Blika is now one of the highest scored domestic bred horses in Canada. Blika also has the second highest score for ridden abilities in North America. Danielle was also the chosen rider to represent Blika at the 2015 World Championships in Herning Denmark for team Canada in the 7 year old + breeding mares class and five gait. In 2006 while training horses in Iceland, Danielle won the intermediate four gait finals at Islandsmot on a 5 year old five gaited problem horse who 3 months before had no lift, pacy tolt and bolted and bucked with his riders. 3 months of loosening up and problem solving his people hating issues created a talented five gaited competition horse that loved to work and loved people. This added on to a list of many other achievements. Not only in competition, but also with young or "problem horses". Danielle is a certified Badge Program Level 1 and 2 and was also on the Canadian Icelandic Horse Federation Board of Directors.

Beautiful Embla. Due to my time being limited from being so busy and Embla needing to mature more, I took her out of training a month ago. She is just 4 years old so plenty of time yet to get back into it. She is happily eating and maturing with her buddies. 😊 Her dapples are really stunning this year.

So I really didn't mean to jump on the bridleless bandwagon but our monsoon season spring rains began finally two weeks ago which means usually alot of time spent in the arena so I decided to start teaching Adam to go bridleless last week. He definitely has the temperament for it and quickly learned to go tolt with no rein contact as well as moderate his speed in tolt. He is highly intelligent and eager to learn so it will be fun to explore this with him!

Disa is not the most flashy mover but she has big strides and has alot of power which makes her a fun and sometimes challenging riding horse. Definitely not a horse for everyone. In fact I would classify her as needing an experienced rider for the most part. Her sassy nature shines through with her stomps, head tosses and meal time glares if her food is late. She is willing to communicate without explosions as long as her rider listens and doesn't ignore her. Due to her post-legged hind end conformation, she is prone to weak stifles so not a good horse to let go on long term holidays over winter. I really enjoy her energy and sass. She is getting more and more fit again after an easy winter. We are trail riding and doing her exercises to get those stifles strong again. This takes time and for social media, this is boring now that we have normalized chaos to snap our attention. But she is still beautiful in her own big sassy way so I hope you enjoy her free running exercise. 😊

Before and after. Melodia when I started with her in February till now. She's still not at her maximum potential, but her self-carriage continues to improve. With the training, she has become more affectionate as well and is just a joy to work with. Im so much enjoying her. 😍❀️

Loving my favourite boy Adam. He is leading lesson trail rides with a calm energy and really coming along in his training. He is getting stronger and more balanced. He has experienced thunderstorms now and mosquitoes with no issuesπŸ¦Ÿβ›ˆοΈ. Todays ride in 28c had no affect on him. Barely any sweat and not breathing hard after his ride in the sun.
Horse flies are just beginning so we will see how he does with that. When the leaves came in on the small trees it was not cool at first but after 10mins he was fine with them. When our Mr. Dependable Thor became a little excited in the winds during a trail lesson yesterday, Adam was the calm one to help settle him down. Im just enjoying him so much. After only arriving here 6months ago from Iceland it seems like he has been here forever. ❀️

😍Plans in the making for a straight track down this field. I'll be using it with the horses anyways until construction begins next year or the year after.
The cats and Nala came to check it out. Our cats love going for walks for us πŸ˜‚.

Mountain riding here in Alberta is an amazing experience. Theres nothing like the fresh mountain air scented with pine, the freedom of having miles of riding to enjoy and the incredible views of the peaks all around us. β€οΈπŸ˜πŸ”οΈβ›°οΈ

Melodia's first time on the trails. She was very very good. Very steady and seemed to love it. This girl is really coming along in her training. Soon enough she will be having a date with Adam. 😍

The feathers on Adam are incredible. He is in summer coat now and looks like a mini red Friesian.
