Whispering Pines Farm and Garden Whispering Pines Farm & Garden, just outside Sundridge, ON, offers holistically raised beef, pork, turkey, eggs & Registered Katahdin sheep. Supply is limited!

CSA meat shares, beef by the side/quarter, and whole/half pork available. We are a small local family farm who provides non-certified cow/calf raised beef, free range eggs, pastured raised pork, chicken, turkeys and lambs. Our animals are fed seaweed and treated with homeopathy. Our meats are GMO, pesticide and herbicide free.

🌅 **Monday Sunrise**

Happy Labour Day Monday! ❤️

This is the last long weekend of summer, and what a beautiful weekend it has been! Sunshine, warm temperatures, and hopefully a little time to slow down and enjoy it.

But this morning gave us a little reminder that the seasons are changing… **8°C!** 🥶🍂

And just like that, summer is winding down. Tomorrow the kids head back to school, routines begin again, and the farm keeps moving right along.

Here’s to enjoying these last warm days, soaking up the sunshine, and appreciating every little bit of summer we have left.

Wishing everyone a **safe, happy and relaxing Labour Day!**

And to all the students heading back tomorrow — **from kindergarten right through to university — wishing you a fantastic first day and a wonderful school year ahead!** 📚✏️🎓

🐔 **Thursday Farm Fun Fact!**

Did you know chickens can actually **remember individual people**? 😲

They can recognize familiar faces and learn who the people are that feed them, care for them, and come around every day.

Which probably explains why our girls seem to know exactly who is carrying the feed bucket! 😂

And if you’ve ever tried walking through a flock of chickens without stepping on anybody…

You’ll quickly discover they also have absolutely **no concept of personal space.** 🤣

**Wednesday Farm Story — Life on the Farm**

There are two kinds of people in this world…

Those who make a list of things they’re going to accomplish today…

…and farmers. 😂

Farmers make a list too.

Then a cow gets out.

A tractor decides it has better things to do.

A gate mysteriously stops working.

Someone needs feeding.

Someone else needs moving.

And somehow, a job that was supposed to take 10 minutes turns into a three-hour adventure. 🤦‍♀️

And somehow this week, **the donkeys decided they needed a change of scenery.** 😂

First, they somehow got in with the calves.

Apparently that wasn't quite the adventure they were looking for, because now they've moved themselves in with the sheep…

**instead of the horses, where they are actually supposed to be!** 🤣

At this point, we're starting to wonder if the animals have their own meeting after we go to bed where they decide what kind of trouble they're going to cause the next day.

You start the morning thinking, *“Today I’m finally going to get caught up!”*

By supper you’re standing in the barn covered in dirt, hay, and who-knows-what, wondering where the day went.

And tomorrow?

You’ll do it all again. 😆

But honestly… we wouldn’t trade this crazy life for anything.

Well…

Maybe for a tractor that actually starts when we ask it to. 😂🚜

# # # Monday Sunrise at Whispering Pines

Yesterday’s sunrise came with a very early start.

We were up at **4:30 a.m. to do the morning chores and get the turkeys loaded**. 🦃 By the time we were ready to leave, the sun was just beginning to put on a beautiful show over the farm.

I managed to grab these pictures while we were loading the turkeys. Even in the middle of a busy morning, I couldn't resist stopping for a moment to capture it.

It turned into a **very long farm day**. We left at 8am and didn’t get home until **7:30 p.m.** There are days on the farm when you simply keep going until everything that needs doing is done.

But somehow, those early mornings make it worth it. The quiet, the sky, the animals, and watching another day begin. ❤️

**Sometimes the best sunrises happen when you’re too busy to stop and watch them.**

# # # 🌅 Sunday Talk — The Farm Knows When Fall Is Coming 🍂🐂

Fall doesn't arrive because the calendar says it's time.

**The farm tells us when the seasons are changing.**

You can see it if you slow down and pay attention.

The cedar trees are heavy with seeds. 🌲 There’s an old saying that **when the cedars are heavy with seed, winter won't be far behind.** While it may be old farm lore rather than a true weather prediction, I love how nature gives us these little signs that a season is changing.

The first leaves are beginning to turn colour. The mornings feel a little different, and there’s that unmistakable change in the air.

Out in the fields, the sheep are still grazing, the calves are growing, and the horses are enjoying the last of the summer pasture. Everything is still green and full of life, but nature is quietly preparing for what comes next.

This is one of the things I love about farming. We don't need a calendar to tell us what season we're entering. **The land, the trees, the animals and even the morning air tell us.**

The seasons don't change on a date.

**They change when nature says they do.** 🍂🌾

And if you slow down long enough to notice, you'll see the signs everywhere.

# # # Saturday Smiles 🐴🌫️

Every morning, there he is… waiting for me. 😂

Baloo stands 16.2 hands high, and somehow this big, beautiful Irish Sport Horse thinks his most important job every morning is to stand in the fog and **whinny at me for his breakfast!**

Baloo originally came from Ireland and has two passports. He is an Irish Sport Horse, a combination of draft and Thoroughbred, giving him that wonderful mix of strength, athleticism and elegance.

He was a dressage horse and was on his way to the Olympics when his owner passed away. After that, he was passed around a few times before eventually finding his way to us.

When Baloo came to us 13 years ago, he was already retired. He was 11 years old then. Today, at 24, he has spent more than half his life with us.

We don't expect anything from him.

No work. No pressure. No expectations.

Just **be Baloo.** ❤️

And apparently, being Baloo means standing in the morning fog, waiting for his breakfast and making sure I know that I'm late! 😂

After everything he had been through, we wanted him to have a place where he could simply enjoy being a horse.

And that's exactly what he does.

Although I'm pretty sure his retirement contract includes **full-time breakfast supervisor**. 😂🐴

**Friday with Norma Jean 🐂**

Well… apparently I am **7 weeks and 4 days old**, and I have decided I am FAST! 💨😂

Mom caught me on video today, running around and kicking up my back feet like I own the whole farm. Honestly, when you feel this good, sometimes you just have to let everyone know! 🐂💃

I am growing quickly, getting stronger every day, eating grass, and still enjoying my bottle and all the attention. I come when Mom calls my name, love having company, and of course… **chin rubs are still one of my favourite things.** 🥰

But today? Today was all about running, bucking, and showing off! 😂

I may have started life as a little bottle baby who needed a lot of help, but look at me now! ❤️

**Why We Chose Katahdin Sheep**

People often ask us why we chose Katahdin sheep, and there are actually quite a few reasons!

Katahdins are known as a **hair sheep breed**, but that doesn't mean they are all just short-haired sheep. Our registered Katahdins are **self-shedding**, and their coats can contain both hair and wool. Some sheep can look a little woollier than others, especially when they are carrying their winter coat, but they naturally shed that coat rather than needing to be sheared.

We also still have some of our more woolly sheep in the flock, so there can definitely be a variety of coats around here! 😂🐑

One of the things we appreciate about Katahdins is that they are known for being hardy and having good parasite resistance. Of course, that doesn't mean we don't pay attention to parasite management—we still watch our animals closely—but it is an important characteristic of the breed.

They are also known for being good mothers. Our ewes are attentive to their lambs and generally do a great job raising them.

Katahdins are adaptable and well suited to pasture-based farming. They graze, browse, raise their young, and are able to live in a way that fits with how we believe animals should be raised.

They are practical, hardy, and good mothers—but don't let that fool you. They also have plenty of personality! 😂

For us, Katahdin sheep have been a great fit for our farm and the way we choose to raise our animals. ❤️🐑

# # # Wednesday Farm Story 🐄🐑🌿

Living on a farm teaches you a lot about being present.

Animals don't worry about tomorrow's to-do list. They don't think about what needs to be done next week or whether they have enough time to get everything finished before winter.

The cows are happy grazing in the field. The sheep are content when they have a full belly and a comfortable place to rest. When the sun is shining, they soak it in. When it rains, they find shelter. When it is time to eat, they eat. When it is time to rest, they rest.

They live in the moment.

Meanwhile, us humans are often running from one thing to the next, thinking about what we should have done yesterday and worrying about what we have to do tomorrow.

I think sometimes the animals are trying to teach us something.

Slow down. Take a breath. Enjoy the sunshine when it is there. Eat when you're hungry. Rest when you're tired. And don't spend so much time worrying about things that haven't even happened yet.

Farm life can be busy, hard, and sometimes downright exhausting. But when I stop for a moment and watch the cows grazing peacefully or the sheep stretched out resting in the field, I am reminded to be present too.

Maybe that is one of the greatest lessons our animals give us. ❤️
