RECIPE OF THE DAY!

Creamy Coastal Crab & Shrimp Bake
A bubbly, golden seafood gratin that pairs the sweetness of crab with a savory, spiced cream sauce.

🛒 Ingredients:
The Seafood:
1 lb Large shrimp, peeled, deveined, and cut into bite-sized chunks
1 lb Lump crabmeat, picked over for shells
The "Holy Trinity" & Aromatics
1 cup Yellow onion, finely diced
1 cup Bell pepper (green or red), diced
1 cup Celery, diced
3 cloves Garlic, minced
1/4 cup Unsalted butter
The Cream Sauce
1/4 cup All-purpose flour
2 cups Whole milk (warm)
1 cup Seafood stock (preferred) or chicken broth
1 tbsp Old Bay seasoning (increased from 1 tsp for better flavor)
1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional, for depth)
Salt and black pepper to taste
The Topping
1 ½ cups Sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded (divided)
1 cup Panko breadcrumbs (crispier than standard breadcrumbs)
2 tbsp Butter, melted (for the crumbs)
Garnish: Fresh parsley and lemon wedges

👨‍🍳 Instructions:
1. Preheat and Prep Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Crucial Step: Pat the shrimp very dry with paper towels before mixing. This prevents the casserole from becoming watery.
2. Sauté the Veggies In a large skillet or Dutch oven, melt the 1/4 cup butter over medium heat. Add the onion, bell pepper, and celery. Sauté for 6–8 minutes until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.
3. Make the Roux Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables. Stir constantly for 2 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste (it should smell slightly nutty).
4. Build the Sauce Slowly pour in the seafood stock and milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Stir in the Old Bay, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.
5. Fold and Fill Gently fold in the raw shrimp chunks and lump crabmeat, along with half (3/4 cup) of the shredded cheese. Pour the mixture into your prepared baking dish.
6. The Crispy Topping In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the 2 tbsp melted butter. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the casserole, then top with the buttery breadcrumbs.
7. Bake Bake for 20–25 minutes. You want the sauce bubbling and the crumbs golden brown. Note: Do not overbake, or the shrimp will become rubbery.
8. Serve Let it rest for 5 minutes (this helps the sauce set). Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with a squeeze of lemon. See less
