Hello BFF Peeps! We have a new Drama Saga!

All of you know the story of our turkey hens and that we do not have a tom turkey, yes?

Well, one of our hens is bound and determined to hatch her eggs.

Meet Snap. Snap has bedded down in Douglas's house to hatch her 16 turkey eggs (unfertilized, since we do not have a Tom).

Since Snap wants so badly to be a mother hen, should I replace the unfertilized turkey eggs with fertilized chicken eggs for her to hatch??

PS, Doug and Rory will keep Snap and her babies safe!

TW Involves placenta and animals doing animals things post birth!

Did you know that when a goat (or any mammal, humans included) have a baby, there is a large amount of blood stays in the placenta and umbilical cord. This is high nutrient, high mineral parts of the moms' functioning physiology.

When a goat kids, she will pass the placenta and usually eat it.

Placenta fun facts:

Not all things pass through the placenta

Placenta can become calcified (this is bad)

When the placenta detaches from the body it leaves a literal wound that bleeds, this is why the oxytocin (mama love hormone) is so important to tighten up the walls of the uterus so mom does not bleed uncontrollably. This is also why you never, ever pull on the cord.

Placenta act as a filter for baby's blood and mom's nutrients. Mom and baby do not *share* blood.

I am sharing a super cool photo of the vascularization seen in the placenta and will share a video in the comments (not for the blood squeamish, but the coolest thing I have ever seen).

This measure is being implemented to protect road infrastructure during spring thaw conditions, when roads are particularly vulnerable to damage.

All operators are required to comply with posted signage and applicable regulations.

Welcome to Bent Fence where you can be friends with ALL the animals!

Last year, our turkey hen was absolutely dismally lonely. There just so happened to be a person in the county who breeds wild turkeys, so what does the Goat Lady do? What all self respecting farmers do, she buys a bunch of poultry for the lonely turkey hen to mother.

Fast forward a year and the two turkey hens are now our greeting crew, our departing crew, entertainment for the neighbours (see photo below), and the Goat Lady's bestie!
