Our book buyer Lara judiciously ordered a big stack of Sweet Heart. Before it even hit the shelves, most of our copies were presold to some of Toronto’s best bakers. But guess what — we ordered more. Lots more. What a stunner! Congrats to Natalie Paull | Beatrix Bakes on a triumph. And while the recipes LOOK impressive & hence challenging, it promises to be not very doable stuff, and the cherry on top — no stand mixers required. Bless.

This treasure has arrived, filling a huge gap on Egyptian cuisine & its diverse cooking culture. It’s an exquisite book, yes, and dense — covering the whole country & its various styles & influences. It’s also such a thrill to see another cookbook written by two friends — a cookbook industry trend we definitely like to see more of, please.

Remember “nom nom nom?” We smartly & collectively retired the overused expression, BUT flipping through Afia’s scrummy book of vegan Ghanaian recipes, “nom”flashed into my head like a hungry kid with a limited vocabulary, staring at a birthday party buffet. Would you prefer “ravishing?” Happy to oblige. Spice mixes, drinks, snacks galore, mains & sides — all looking quite fetch here. And it’s back in stock, after our first stack quickly ran out.
