ours is grown in Africa. theirs is grown in Asia. but in the cup, we’re family.

what to do with used coffee grounds ☕🌱
before you bin them: spent grounds are one of the most useful things that comes out of your kitchen. compost, mulch, worm bins, seedling trays.
one honest note though — most of the internet advice on this is half myth. spent grounds aren’t as acidic as people claim, and dumping them straight onto plants isn’t the move. dry them, or work them into compost first.

three years at the Oak Park Fall Fair, and it’s still the one we look forward to most 🍂
not because it’s the biggest. because it’s ours.
there’s something about pouring coffee for people who live down the road from you. some of them have been picking up a bag since our first year here.

season finale ☕💃
here’s what we noticed: the crowd was different this time. earlier in the summer it skewed young. yesterday we had a whole other generation come through — people who came for the coffee and stayed because the music was good.
turns out specialty coffee and a dance floor pull a wider room than either does alone.
we poured Coffeetails all day, showed people what Kenyan single origin can actually do, and got to talk about the women in Kipkelion who grow every bean.

found this espresso at a roadside kiosk in Kenya ☕
here’s the part most people don’t know: for decades, Kenya exported nearly all of its best coffee. the AA grade went overseas. what stayed home was mostly the low grade and instant.
that’s changing. and this cup is proof.
